you are being hunted
why is this a guaranteed death? so far same thing everytime. surrounded by like 10 wolves that can outrun you. you cant escape and you cant possibly fight all of them. it's just a guaranteed reduction in skills!

'You are being hunted' used to be the bane of all my attempts at zero death runs. I've mastered it now, and the chances of it killing me are nearly zero. I don't try to escape, even with a portal nearby.

Most important: never, ever be on the plains or the mountains without the bonemass ability ready.
Additionally: it is good to have something covering your back. Don't block, but hit the wolf as it approaches. Have stamina and health potion ready. Frostner is very useful because it takes wolves out of the battle without them respawning, but the iron mace with which you entered the mountain biome will do as well.

Stab them in the face with a pointy stick. 2 hits and they're dead. Being hunted isn't guaranteed death; it's guaranteed 20+ wolf pelts in under 3 minutes. A blessing.

20 + unneeded pelts far from a blessing. and engaging 1 or 2 while 4 or 5 others hit you seems guaranteed.

You are being hunted is one of the easiest events when you know some tricks.
Just find a boulder and jump on it. They cannot jump and will just stay around… hammertime!
The other trick some vikings use is to always go to mountains with some stone and wood to quickly drop a workbench and use a hoe to raise the ground below you. The same situation… they cannot reach you, they cannot jump, but your iron sledge works perfectly.
Easy pelt and meat.

Yeah this will hurt you a few times before you learn how to deal with it. The devs like killing players, this is most likely one of those things made just for that reason. Because everyone's first hunt I'm sure went the same unless they were lucky enough to be on a tower, tall rock or out sailing

I always carry 10 wood and 20 stone plus the hoe to raise myself on a terrain column as @Verljko stated. Then just pick off the wolves and collect skins, meat and fangs when done.

There are at least a dozen threads about this. It is a player issue. If you are weak, have poor skill levels, Your skills should level up 10 per biome, so mountains 40-50 at least. If skill in general is low then it will be a problem that you can overcome, you just have to be clever or more cautious. When you are more advanced, know the game better, have better leveled gear (the difference between armor level one and four is high), better food, potions on your quick bar, use them, have the Bonemass action up instead of Eikthyr or gods forbid the elder, and use it when needed then it's not a problem. If you can't run, can't jump on rocks, don't know to put them through a squeeze, LoS them, find a golem to share the burden, etc, etc, then yes, you get to die again.
tldr: At some point you probably will see it as the wolf shank delivery event and be happy.

jump on a big rock.

hide in a cave.

hide on a tower.

use spin to win to kill them.

event can only spawn in mountains and plains. by plains wolves dont pose much threat anymore. and they also attack fulings.

so the event is not a 100% skill los. its 100% a skill ISSUE if that happens everytime.

also you can just turn the events off with the next content update.

The skills matter?
Because it doesn't seem like they do at all.
Unless I'm missing the point.

Point is dont think you need a certain skill level to accomplish regular gameplay. I said 20-30s because imo it's a very achievable amount anyone can get with out trying too much

Weapon skills increase damage and reduce stamina cost

You can have 100% in each skill and still die to wolves. It's a skill issue of the player, not a character.
Suzaku Jun 5, 2023 @ 1:41pm
Yeah, skills are nice, but entirely unnecessary. Proper play and equipment will get you far. A simple upgraded Ancient Bark spear kills wolves in no time. Literally poke them as they run up and that stuns them. Second attack crits and kills. If the wolf is starred, parry, stab, kill.

You can literally kill 2 wolves every 3 seconds, and I don't care how hard the whiners want to exaggerate, because I've seen it happen countless times, you will never be swarmed by more wolves than that.
You are being hunted only happens in the mountains and the plains and the most frequently it can happen is every 40 minutes. Stay rested, keep your food up. Your bonemass forsaken power lasts 5 minutes and has a 20 minute cool down. Special attack with the aetgir can hit all the wolves in its radius. You can also take your hoe and your hammer with you and when the raid starts build a work bench and use the hoe to raise the terrain you are standing on by 8 meters and wait for the raid timer to end. Then use your bow to shoot all the remaining wolves.

In the plains you can just run past a group of lox and let them handle the raid for you.
