Flooded passages in Crypts glitched? SPOILER ALERT
Twice now, I have swum into a flooded passage in a Crypt, found a dead end, and was somehow prevented from swimming out again. Of course I drowned both times. Is this a bug or a feature? Fortunately, both times I was able to creep close enough to my corpse to recover the stuff without getting trapped again.
if this is planned, NFP. It is what it is. But if the devs are going to do inescapable traps, they might as well put quicksand in the swamps too. :-)
If it's a glitch, then it should maybe be fixed a little bit.

Hmm. This has never happened to me; I've always been able to swim back just fine.

Maybe there was one of those roots in the way, and you somehow swam past it when entering the passage?

Half of that happened to me once.
I just didn't die because I punched the root trapping me until it broke. Had to log out and back in a few times to "restore" (reset) the stamina bar thou...

Maybe a bug. AFAIK those crypts' designs are randomised so maybe thats whats caused the dead end.
But usually, if you can swim in, you should also be able swimming out as well.
Maybe you lost track inside?

There is no "usually" there. I've probably seen just as many flooded dead ends as I've seen flooded passages.

Never seen any passage you could get lost in (always one short straight swim or a much closer dead end).

Heck I've drowned swimming on top of the water. I spend more then half the time running around naked trying to retrieve my stuff and this poor bast_rd can't even thread water. I guess it all comes down to, if at first you don't succeed and all that? I mean a dear gets you 2 little peaces of meat and the dude has no stamina to speak of. If i'm not changing the subject, you cant compete with an AI only play with it! thanks dev. ENJOY.

You can get easily more stamina by making sure you're well-rested and properly feeded.
Also you dont lose stamina if you stand still in the water.
Use potions to fill up your stamina in the water, also make sure to stop moving before your stamina reaches zero and take another potion then

Your stamina regenerates while swimming if you are waiting near an object like a wall or a boulder. It only stays depleted if you are in open water. You shouldn't be drowning in a crypt corridor. Screen shots would be helpful to identify the problem.

I had a reliable friend that happened to several times. Since then I have decided to be smart about it. If you check before you just jump in, or wade in and immediately STOP and LOOK you can see if it is a dead end or a real passage. At least with the circlet it is easy to see. If it is a dead end turn right around and get out. Not tried it with a torch but you should still be able to see.

tldr: Look before you leap. Always a good idea in this game. So many issues on this forum are cautionary tales of peeps that just aren't paying attention. Welcome to Valheim, a game that rewards the cautious and well prepared. Since that particular issue has been going on forever, it may well be on purpose and not a glitch at all. Who knows...

Never happened to me either. Always fine to just back track.

Does the circlet work in the water? Because a torch goes out when you get too deep in the water.

Wow, didn't know that, thanks! Guess I need to add swimming practice to my character's training regimen.

Thanks for all the feedback and good advice. Not sure what screenshots would show except my character in a dark flooded corridor with a depleted stamina bar. When I get one of those round things (a round Tuit, I think it's called) will do a "naked" run back there and do a narrated video. I renovated a house up on poles in this swamp not too far from that crypt, so not too challenging to sneak over there.

OT, but there's also my "refuge tree" in this area of this swamp. It's a mostly fallen huge tree that goes way up at a walkable angle. I want to build a sturdy core wood treehouse up there, just because.

Circlet stays lit in the water. First thing I buy, even before belt if I have to choose.

1. That is either an oxymoron or very misleading.
There are three options:
A) you're actively swimming and draining stamina.
B) you're passively swimming on the spot without draining stamina.
C) or you're not swimming (but still in the water) because there's a tiny bit of land under your feet (angle is important) and your stamina is recharging.
You can swim up to those large flat rocks/boulders(?) eg. in BF or Meadows and still drown because your feet couldn't "grab" on to anything (not deep enough or to steep).

2. true - see B) (it's still swimming).

3. True, it shouldn't but it can absolutely happen.

4.

But there's no guarantee for a crypt being there now. That screenshot was taken 2022-02-09 and since then the algorithm for spawning crypts was nerfed.
