Hildir's Fire Pit questions
How the heck do I use it? It's in my inventory. When I grab it, all I can do is throw it..?? When it randomly lands, the only option I have is to pick it up again.

I'm not new to this game, but obviously I'm missing something, lol

Help!

Its a part of the recipe for the actual fire pit in the build menu.

Have the pit and some wood in your inventory, equip hammer, look under misc, should be there ready to build and place it.

Also can I just say, that the fire pit can't go through portals by default is really, really stupid.

Stuff like ores and eggs that help with progression ok, but a freaking firepit that's just there for ambiance, that's really dumb.

Agreed. I recognise its their game but the lack of logic or even apparent basic thought in the last few bits of content are just epic-ally banal!

Far as I can see nothing in Hildir effects the game at all. So why bother? Only the fact their are now some places I have not gone to makes them even worth second glance.

Its almost like they are trying to superimpose a different game entirely as the format is such a departure from what gone before?

At least it doesn't interfere with us playing the actually good bits already released!

When I saw the Hildir quests, all I could think was "Barbie meet Valheim" and lost interest. I will wait for the Ashlands to return.

Its not really. Its meant to be a reward and under normal circumstances you will find Hildir close to home.

A lot of people have gone into it with limited unexplored meadow and so she is further away. On a new seed she'll likely be on the starter island.

Have you read the patch notes or any form of information on her?, she spawns at least 3 km from spawn.

Hildir spawns in a radius of 3000 to 5100 from the world center. For reference, 3000m from spawn is the closest a plain biome can be generated. So no, not that close to the spawn.

The only good reason I can think of to use a Fire Pit is to put it inside a troll cave with eggs and chickens. I did not test it yet, but i think the chickens would be protected against the fire

I would like to modify the above statement as I have I believe figured the SOLE reason Hildir exists.

She is an excuse to add three more middling raids to the game nothing more. SO if you deal with her and do her quest(s) you'll get some added raids. Yet the content such as it is she provides seems to favour those that enjoy customising their base and look and feel?

So players in the process of enhancing their game they add something that will attack their base? Interesting. But then again logical - I mean logical as to why they added the raid depressing slider bar so it can make up for the logic fail of the main content.

A really nice work around. Illogical premise to build in unneeded detail that then attacks the most likely target market of the unneeded detail leading to use of a feature that would not have gotten so much attention.

Maestro your music please (queues up Benny Hill theme tune)

The Fire Pit is almost completely useless. It provides no additional benefit over a standard campfire unless maybe it lasts longer, but at that point you're probably using the fireplace or bonfire instead. You cannot put a cooking station or Cauldron over it, so you cannot use it to cook meat on a trip or have a fancier fire source for cooking at base. AT MOST maybe it wont kill chickens in a pen as stated above, but thats it, and u can always elevate other fire sources off the ground anyway for pens outside of caves. Also, it feels completely redundant for decoration when we have the much nicer standing brazier.

So, why would I want to haul this around if it doesnt offer me an additional perk? I cant teleport with it, I cant cook with it, its heavy, I could see the utility if it simply let you place meat on top of it for cooking, which would actually be very nice at least for setting up a little patio scene at a base.

I havent done her quests yet but if its just to unlock mobs previously not part of raids thats not particularly interesting to me. Oh boy, starred fenrings, thats real scary when i just got done slaying a bunch of starred seekers and the queen.

Actually the coolest thing about the Iron Fire Pit is that you can set it up on a wooden floor, thus avoiding some of the hassle when setting up cooking fires before you get the hearth.

Yes, that's what it's for. Would be even better if it could be transported through portals but I guess the devs didn't want players to have fully portable cooking kits available and decided to use a restriction that already exists in the game instead of inventing another new one.

The best thing for blocking chickens from entering normal fires are signs. Build signs around the perimeter of your normal fire and your troll cave chickens will thrive.

I have not tried it yet.......... but I think you can put things in that fire like the hearth and bonfire. When mousing over the new firepit you have the option to put something in it, which I do not think you can do in a normal fire. I will try putting certling cores in the new firepit this evening when I get on. SO maybe it is meant to be a portable fireworks device?

I also think it had to be an over site on the devs part and in a future patch they will remove the portal restriction or add something really beneficial we can do with it to warrant the restriction. Maybe it could give us another point to our rested buff?

When I place the fire pit, there is option to add item 1-8. What items can I add? Meat or wood is not working.
