Modifiers- drop items
I love how the community asking for death penalties regarding dropped items and skill loss being on different sliders has not been addressed.
I am fine with skill loss but hated the notion of losing items on death and needing to either run back to where I was naked; or make a secondary set of armor and weapons and ending up not being to bring everything back, potentially wasting resources if I die a second time.

So naturally, I go with death penalty set to "casual"- and it becomes apparent I still dropped my loot, but got to keep my armor and the one weapon I happened to be holding when I died.
It's such a damned pity that I'm playing as a mage, and died holding a pickaxe while I got jumped by a tick while mining a marble skull.

Hildir's Request has been in development for the past... four months now? six? And this was not brought up at all?

Luckily for me, there's an option there that does exactly what I want, but I did think it was really weird they'd advertise custom difficulties and then limit them in this way.
Personally for the death drops slider [if it's even done at all] I would do it like:
>do not drop ANYTHING
>drop anything that isn't armor, weapons, tools, or ammunition [meaning food and potions still drop]
>drop anything that isn't armor or the current equipped weapon [this is the current casual setting, gross]
>default drop everything on death
>[and whatever the harder penalties for death drops currently are]

You missed one that I've seen more and more frequently, lately:
> drop anything that isn't equipped or in the hotbar

I think both item dropping and skill loss should be removed entirely. This is a "Terraria-esque" style game where your equipment gradually gets better, and losing your most powerful items on another island where your boat is just doesn't feel fair.

I'm fine modding out skill loss for now and using mods to buff portals so that item dropping is engaging instead of just unfair, but it would be nice if there were a setting in there to adjust skill loss rate down to zero.

Yeah they should just do an easy old fashioned game setup screen with settings for all variables within reason and be done with it.

But I am sure that amount of text at once is considered too intimidating these days for a certain crowd or some BS so it's going to be left to modders.

You can achieve this using the admin commands, right?

casual mode doesn't work? I just died a bajillion miles away from my home looking for the mountains... i finally found it and got killed by a wolf that i didn't hear or see. And all my stuff is gone even though death penalty slider is set to casual. So WTF? Sliders don't work? or is it a conflict with a mod? I have about 15 mods installed.

Boss health and difficulty needs to be toned way down for casual, sp. I had to exploit the hell out of the swamps and mountain bosses. And can't even touch mistlands yet due to the BS plains boss which IMO is ludicrous amounts of BS. I did manage to kill the dragon by finding a swamp cave that can't be destroyed and popping in and out.

All bets are off when using mods a few days after a major patch. You're basically beta testing for the modders at that stage.

I struggled with plains boss more than the others. First tried all bosses up to him, then had a real hard time with Yagluth or whatever he's called. You need fire resistance potions (Which I was too lazy to wait for to finish brewing) otherwise you get one shot, even with all health foods and max armour for that stage.

That, or you can do what we did... Which is to just cheese him. He never despawned for us, at all, and he only targets one player at a time. So just have one person kite him, and another person bow them. Even if you die, just run back to him.

I recall that Yagluth mostly deals fire and lightning damage, and has a weakness for ice damage. He might have a weakness for spirit damage as well, but I'm not sure.
Get yourself a handful of barely wine [fire resistance] and Frostmourne with bow and ice arrows.
I fought Yagluth in a plain with plenty of ponds nearby, it helped me cheese the meteor spell and fire breath attacks.

Yeah i was doing that a lot. But only by myself. And after half a dozen deaths or so, I no longer cared... And Mistlands is pretty much impossible without his drop or buff or whatever it is.

Yes. I had fire potions and the best food and health potions. I even dug a trench around his spawn location because I was hoping to hide in there while i healed up, etc. And i had about 200 ice arrows. The bottom line for me is, the bosses were designed for coop, and it would be nice if companies thought about us soloers more.
