Why does the hearth gets damage when you step on it?

it takes damage if it damages you. you can walk on an unlit one all day. People were using campfires and hearths and such to kill things in pits, so now all the damaging fires take damage in return.

Nope, even walking on the stone section makes it damage,

It takes damage when it deals damage. You can stand on the stone part acutally if you avoid fire. The issue is that if you wear lots of armor (often the case when you unlock it) you dont see the small fire damage that the hearth is trying to deal.

At least thats the theory... i havent seen inconsistencies with it, but then i'm not exactly checking it either.

Sometime I "Brush" the hearth whenever I go out of my forward camp, not even running, but walking pass the hearth, but it still takes damage. Very mind boggling
