How do I repair tools?
I have a hammer, axe etc that are red flashing and need to be repaired. But how?
Googled it and it shows a hammer icon sticking out of the side of the bench inventory, but I dont have that icon.
ANy ideas? Was that removed from the game or something?
Can you still repair hammers, axes etc?

Yes you can repair those and you need to do this at a workbench. To build a workbench you need a hammer though...

In this instance you will need to make a new hammer, build a workbench, make sure its covered and then it will show the hammer symbol. Repairing items doesn't cost resource though regardless if its wood metal or stone.

The work bench requires walls around 3 sides and a roof to be able to make repairs.

... and won't let you access it if it's not sheltered.

The question becomes, "what mods are you using?"

When you interact with it, it brings up the crafting menu? It doesn't say anything like "Station too exposed?" And are you sure it's the Workbench you're bringing up and not just your regular inventory?

(Sorry, I know these might sound like dumb questions, but wanted to eliminate the obvious.)

yes, look carefully for the exposed message. A workbench can have a roof and walls and STILL be exposed; its easy to mess this up as a beginner because sometimes what looks right visually isn't satisfying the game's rules. I think you can do it with 3 full walls and 4 roof tiles... make a U shape with the 3 walls around the bench, and then roof it 2 up and 2 down, usually works. the bench must NOT be embedded into the walls anywhere, it needs to have visible clear space between it and each wall. There must not be gaps, like if one of the walls is raised up due to terrain dipping, plug those holes.

oh wow I worked it out.. it did have walls on the side but they were not right next to it and didnt count somehow .. I put a wall up the side right next to it and it worked. thanks!

(they really should explain that in the interface of course)

you can also place it up against a rock then make 2 pillars to place a roof over it, just make sure the rock goes up past the roof, a giant rock I guess.

experiment with stuff, its fun
