So being hunted means innocence lost forever
So I was having rather an easy time of the mountains in full iron gear and then upgrading to silver. Even two wolves posed very little problem as long as I got my blocks off, and for the most part I'd hear them howling beforehand anyway so I was rarely caught off guard. Then just as I was caught in an awkward position in a ravine, trying to hop my way out, I 'got hunted'. Dear Lord.......... my buff from sausages was running out so I wasn't even at full 'swamp food' level. I always pack carrot soup, black soup and sausages for the mountain biome and up till now it's been more than sufficient.

So let me get this right............... these buggers can gank me anytime anywhere ? I'm in the habit of traipsing about the meadows looking for mushrooms and wood on only some deer meat and maybe some honey. Sometimes I don't even bother with that. So from now on no matter where I am I have to be incredibly well fed and be carrying all my best gear ? Crap.

I have no concerns about wolves attacking my base as they can't get in but getting murdered in the open like that at random isn't the most attractive proposition.

I wonder with enough stamina if the two handed mace might be a viable option ?

Good news is that the 'You are being Hunted' event only happens while you are in the Mountains or Plains. Won't have to worry about a pack of Wolves munching on you while you are in the Meadows.

Otherwise, I would save the Bonemass power for that event if possible so that you can focus on the creation of Wolf Meat and Wolf Pelts. Otherwise, make sure you have your Rested buff as the Wolves are going to tear you apart if you don't have Stamina.

Ah........ I had the idea that I could get done anywhere. Oh that's great news.

I'm a tad lazy about making sure I have my rested buff. I better be more diligent about that !

Being hunted is scary at first, but once you fully upgrade silver level it's an awesome source of good food and pelts.

If you're quick it's an easy event to survive though, jump on a rock

Bonemass plus frostner and swing away.

Always slot medium health and stam potions, Bonemass power and use it. You could try the root chest piece, and be sure your jumping is at least 30+, running at 40-50. In mountains always be looking for "that rock" that you can hop on. Practice hopping on the big rocks, worst time to try it is when you are up to your asss in wolves. Any time you can funnel wolves you are the potential winner. Frostner is indeed the bees knees, silver sword and shield. Get your blocking up to at least 30-40. Being stunlocked is the kiss of death. Folks will say skill levels don't matter but I beg to differ. Kill thousands of drakes. Frost arrows will be your friends.

Find onion seeds, learn new foods. Swamp food just isn't good enough if you are struggling, replace w/ wolf skewer and onion soup, sausages ok but there's better to be had. Carrot soup is fine for BF, two biomes back.

I like the mountains but it's a process getting comfortable there. Makes the game fun.

Jump on a stone + Iron sledge[valheim.fandom.com] (or Stagbreaker - always handy).
-> your armor/health is almost irrelevant.

Or if possible wake up a Stone Golem and let them duke it out while you kill what you can (with a bow).

Depending on where you are gear wise sometimes the wolf event is just free meat and hides. If your not ready to deal with it just make a beeline for high ground somewhere and wait it out, its a short event.

I have to disagree with the suggestion to use Frostner in this situation. The multiple attack capability of a sword or atgier is much more effective in this situation than Frostner.

I've fought this many times with a sword, and it's not very hard at all. I've also fought it with a knife, which slices up wolves in no time, but when they come in numbers you can easily get overwhelmed taking out one at a time.

Great advice all. Thanks. Regarding sword vs Frostner, I have way higher skill level with maces as I used that exclusively in the swamp. This silver sword is my first sword ever so that's a work in progress. Higher skill means less stamina to swing if I understand the game mechanics correctly.

Getting up on a rock and pounding the big mace is very appealing. Gotta find that big rock though.........

Currently using fire arrows. I also have a chest full of poisons I got in crypts that I haven't even used yet !

My favorite time for this to happen to me is when I'm near a Fuling village or a trio of Lox. I sit back and watch the wolf massacre...:steamhappy:

Max stamina reduction is 33%, and that's at skill level 100. The difference for you is likely less than 10% between the two weapons. With a sword you can hit 2, 3, or even more wolves with one swing. Even if it's just 2, that's 100% stamina reduction, since you've gotten in two attacks with one swing.

i have been hunted twice while raiding a furling village. This is the best time as the wolves do most of the work for you. just find some high ground and watch the carnage.

Last time i was hunted i just brought out my atgier and was one hitting them. You can kill like 40+ wolves in the time of the event, its hilarious.

Oh so the mace isn't capable of hitting more than one at a time ?

Doesn't increased skill also increase damage somewhat ?
