About building a new base
Hello there Vikings

I aim to build a new big base at plains with newly unlocked building materials and stuff (Plains) but I will start roaming in Mistlands soon. Is there a crop or other ingredient that doesnt grow anywhere except Mistlands? I was disappointed when I found out that I cant grow flax / barley in my base in black forest biome.

Magecaps and Jotunpuffs.

Yes, there is a Mistlands specific crop type, two actually. And access to a resource which needs regular harvesting of a static placement. So you will need at least a Mistlands farming base.

Note that you don't need a full blown base to farm these items. It's enough to clear out some space, defend it a bit and put a portal. Crops will grow even when you're not around so you just need to visit every few days to harvest and replant.

You can build a big base in the meadows and just build a small farm that you access from a portal in the other biomes if you want.

For fps it is actually better to keep your farm away from your main base. Crops and tamed animals can cause significant drop.

Thanks for the answers, I'll try to find a very big patch of land when I go to Mistlands. If cant, I'll only establish a farm base then :)

Maybe you can find a spot in the Plains that borders on the Mistlands and build one 'cross border' garden for all 4 of those crops.

Obviously I'm in the separate farm, port in, do my farming and port out camp. No workbench or anything that might attract a raid. Everything is safe and sound as long as your not detected during the time you're there. so sneak to make sure nothing is agro'd when you port out).

Note that both mistland specific crops have significantly bigger yields so you dont need a big "farm" as in previous biomes. And also there are other mechanics that require you to venture forth to collect stuff.

Making mistland base is more about finding a cool looking spot than gathering resources, unless you are very lucky with map rng. So take your time with them, as it may take a while till you find a really nice place.

if all you want is a farm and a hearth, the ML are filled with usable ruins. Unlike other areas where you get a building barely big enough for a bed and a chest as supposedly someone's homestead ruin, these are relatively spacious and the worst kept secret in the game is that the boss alter sits on a large underground cave/ruin combo that you can turn into a fair sized base as well.
A portal, some comfort and storage, maybe a repair shop, and flatten/raise up a little farmland and its good to go. Pop there and harvest now and again.

ah that bigger yield info is good to know, thanks! Yesterday I ventured around Mistlands for a spot with my ship and found a big ruin. I didnt venture inside cause I was low on food and ship was damaged. I think I'll move my base to Plains and make a smaller base in Mistlands if that ruin good protection and suitable for it :)

Wow I did not realize this, but thinking about it - it does make a lot of sense. Thanks!

I still use my original base but I have portals set up to my plains farm and mistlands farm. Also, my regular farm isn't even at my base but on a small meadows island out in the ocean. Portal to that too.

I made a small outpost in the mistlands with a nearby farm for the mistlands shrooms which only grow in the mistlands and a portal back to my main base. Pro Tip: On the map in the mistlands there are areas that look black vs wispy and purple. These areas have less mist, are generally flatter and a good place to set up a farm. I have mine by a dverger tower that I took over as an outpost, with help from some friendly seekers ;). Never found this to be a problem and the ML mobs don't seem to bother my crops. All the best!
