It's a layered system that can feel like it's locking you out of playing the game though. You need comfort items in your home, meads, specific foods, rested status and not being wet. Stamina is really where the 'brutal survival' game comes in.
I believe there are also world modifiers to adjust stamina use via devcommands?
You can regain stamina in combat by bobbing and weaving, strafing right or left, back peddling, and retreating with your shield at the ready. Against some of the the human sized and smaller stuff you can wait until they wind up for a strike and just step out of the way. Archers can be killed easily by moving behind an object and waiting in ambush as they foolishly walk around the object. Tolls and Lox can be killed with a bow just by walking backwards around a fairly solid object like a stone tower in the black forest or a stone obelisk in the plains. Its even easier if the object you use is an indestructible POI like a rune stone or some of the henges.
All the creatures telegraph their attacks. Once you learn their attack patterns managing your stamina is easy. The devs have tricked you with the 3 swing weapon combos. Frequently trying to get those in, in previous biome gear is what gets you damaged and depletes your stamina. Instead you have to parry block and swing once, then make a move that doesn't use any stamina or lets you regen some of it, then parry block and swing again. The fights take 3 or 4 times as long this way but you end them with a full bar of health and a full bar of stamina. The only thing that gets you in those situations is backing into territory you didn't all ready clear or adds from a spawner that you missed.
Has new commands. Is also mildly funny for the trolling in it. I'd copy/paste the details from the vid, but they overused the enter key so much, I don't want to take the time to edit it all. Most important tho for this thread below.
Setkey StaminaRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
This command modifies all stamina use.
E.g. Setkey StaminaRate 0 to disable stamina.
Setkey MoveStaminaRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
This command modifies stamina use in the same way as the previous command, but only for movement-related stamina use such as running and jumping.
E.g. Setkey MoveStaminaRate 200 to double stamina use from movement. or 0 to eliminate stamina use for movement.
Setkey StaminaRegenRate (percentage without the percentage sign)
Values greater than 100 increase the speed at which stamina regenerates
E.g. Setkey MoveStaminaRate 200 to double stamina regeneration.
