I know at least of the full equipment and 'start a new character on random seed' categories. Both with and without using bugs(like chair clipping in crypts).
Your beef is whether or not portals are used when the game is played on hard mode, or rather, you only consider it "hard mode" if portals are not used.
But, that has nothing to do with speed runs per se.
It didn't say that because the question wasn't asked until after the fact.
I trust that's the conclusion of this conversation.
Besides, I still don't understand why speedruns shouldn't use portals. Or why any hardmode should remove them.
Hard mode means difficult. Portals are purely for convenience and nothing else. Removing the convenience increases the difficulty by exposing the player to the hazards of travel. That is why hard mode should not have portals.

You seem to not understand the difference between hardcore mode and speedrun. A speedrun can be done with any settings or rules. Obviously the time and strategies will differ based on the rules, but it has nothing to do with hardcore mode or not.
This conversation - and thread - should indeed end because it is pointless.
Devs didn’t say anything about portals, that is just your interpretation of hard mode.
In answer to the question, that's probably a different topic. This is covering the use of portals in speedruns, in the context of the recent contest being offered.
I think Veseljko's argument is on point.
OP, you're still conflating speedruns and hardmode. Both are based on different interests, challenges, and motivations. One has nothing to do with the other.
I disagree. If the threshold is allowing for faster completion of the game, then tool-assisted speedruns are just speedruns instead of having the "tool-assisted" designation.
