Advice for mushroom farm in mistlands?
Anyone got any advice for mushroom farming in mistlands? everytime I turn around in there, I've got a soldier breaking down walls, seekers flying over walls, or a Gjall dumping fire directly onto crops.

any advice? and yes, I've already tried making the farm right on the edge of the mistlands, doesnt help much

I found some mistlands biome with no mist and none of the giant spikey rocks. Just smooth terrain (although steep in places). There is black forest next door, with a stone tower ruins right on the edge where I built a simple base. The area is pretty bare actually, but makes a nice quiet spot to plant some shrooms. And I hunt hares there, since it's so much easier to see everything. There are seekers and gjall in the wider area, but my corner is pretty quiet.

I don't know why that area is so different. I have not found another mistlands area like it, although I have not explored every last scrap of that biome on my map.

It may just take looking for an area with few spawns, which could be anywhere. In my first Mistlands playthrough I found a small area surrounded by rocks with one tall rock overhang. I put my portal under the overhang so the gjall wouldn't see it, and the surrounding rocks kept everything else from seeing my crops.

I've seen other areas that don't have seekers or soldiers around just as a matter of chance based on where the spawners end up. These are more likely to be found on an edge since you only need to worry about one side, but they could be anywhere.

You definatly dont want a Gjalil spwan near crops.

My mushroom farm is protected with tall palissades with a portal in there . Seekers usually ignore what they can't see

Once or twice I found a little Mistland island with just a tiny speck of land for cultivation. Just enough space to plant maybe ten to twelve mushrooms. And the island itself can be spawn-proofed easily. Something like this is the jackpot of course.

Apart from that I often look for those infested mines with the long stairway outside. The ground around the stairs can usually be cultivated too. Drop a campfire to keep the bugs from respawning. Explore the surroundings for any potential threats. If you hear a Gjall, it is too close (and will respawn) to your farm.

But in general, I think these large-scale industrial farming areas we know from the Plains won't work in the Mistlands.

The best mechanism for preventing random base harassment in other regions is caging a couple of the offending mobs nearby. It's noisy but it does prevent random spawns.

Mini farms, just a portal and plants. Hop in and out. Once one gets roach infested, just go to another.

I've just cultivated some land outside a Dverger outpost or Infested Mine... enough for about 100 plants. Plant 100, portal out... come back in a couple days.. harvest. Rinse/repeat. Only once have I had an attack when I portal'd back in - Either kill whatever it is or grab your crops and run. At a 1 to 3 ratio its easy to have 100's of shrooms in just a few cycles.

I found a location where 3 little ravines/valleys converged at a black marble outpost. I terrain walled off each end of the valleys and then laid out some farm space. Workbenches everywhere to keep the spawns away and it's been working so far....

My shroom farm is on the edge of plains and I raised it before leveling and then added tame lox all around. The gjall seem to spawn in the same place so just pick a spot where they don't spawn. I have a rather large farm that never gets attacked.

My strategy is to look for a quiet place away from structures and mobs where you have the space to cultivate a plot of land. Put a portal there and nothing else except a workbench.

The trick is, if you're not around, bad things won't be either.
You only come there once every few ingame days to harvest and replant and you're gone.

Having crops near where players are will always be a risk when it comes to invasions and mobs.

As many have said, I also tend to just put down a portal and workbench and then just plant stuff and leave for a couple of days till its time to come back, harvest, replant and leave again. Bonus points if you can do it near a collection of roots so you can visit your sap extractors while you're at it.

I have grown a couple hundred magecaps and similar numbers of jotuns. My "farm" is small, enclosed in wood, neighbors on one of the magic roots, and is at the edge of the Mistlands near the Black Forest. Only visitors have been from black forest. I do have a couple of craft workbenches nearby--that may be providing the protection. I have killed seekers and hares nearby and had a Gjall kill me, so it's definitely in the Mistlands.

It's been said a few times and it's the best option. Find a part of a mistlands island far from anywhere you actually care about to cultivate. Drop a portal, and forget about it for a few days. Come back when ready to harvest or check on em and nothing bad can happen to them.
