level 5 cauldron?

Most of the Mistlands recipes require a level 5 cauldron. However, I see no information on how to upgrade from level 4 (which I have) to level 5. Anyone want to weigh in? I haven't finished off the Plains boss (in part because vegvesir nor altar is anywhere to be found as of yet). But I have many of the ingredients from Mistlands for the advanced recipes.

Yup. Make a black metal axe, chop up an yggdrassil tree or two (or a few saplings), make a black metal pick, then go find some black marble (all the buildings or ruined things, or certain other items, and hit it with the pick. Or take a stonecutter with you and use it to dismantle one of the buildings or ruins for the black marble. Then make yourself a mortar and pestle for your cauldron.

I have that w/o BM, no need to do all that, I am pretty sure. Lvl 5 Cauldron has been up for 3-4 months at least now.

OK, I've done some exploring and I'm not seeing any ruins. Even got above the mists on a mountain top and not seeing any ruins. Everything I hit comes back rock. Ideas?

The big black skeletons in mistlands give black marble. Or use a stonecutter to destroy a black marble building.

you need a mortar pestle marble fine wood core wood

look for the big bones sticking out of the ground then mine them they will give you marble if you mine into the skulls you will get fleshy tissue also

Yep @Twinkies, I'm aware of that. Just haven't found either the Vegvesir or the Yag altar so far. Still looking for him...
