what i hate the most is constant respawning of enemies
It would make sense that more effort you put int ceaning the area less endangered it would be
But i just get raided by swamp, bats goblins constantly. That is totally demotivating and makes you want to quit the game.
FIX IT

You can change that in your world settings now - the raids can be turned up, down or off. And honestly, from a long time player perspective...build a better base? That's kind of the point.

The update is not released to the general public yet. It's still in the Public Test Branch so you have to opt-in to the beta:

https://steamcommunity.com/ogg/892970/announcements/detail/6662560248440866811

But yes, the "World Modifiers" are accessible throughout the game. Sometimes I will change the raid slider to no raids and toggle "Passive Enemies" to give me some peace and quite will I build. Once I'm ready to resume play I can log back out, change the world modifers, and go back in.

I believe the slider goes down 3 steps: raids less often, much less often, and no raids. I finding sliding it down one notch very nice. Raids still happen but not so often as to annoy.

When you clear an area put a workbench down. That prevents mobs from spawning in the work bench coverage zone. Its possible to build a base so large that raids spawn outside the active area of your base and can't reach the center where your buildings are.

This is it: workbenches stop spawns. So for a large base, a common tactic is to build a moat or raised wall, and then place workbenches around the edges (you can hide them inside walls, floors etc if you don't like them poking out).

Mobs will then only spawn outside your base, and often far enough away they won't bother you. It protects against most raids, meaning you can ignore them, or engage them for their juicy resources. The exception is a Mistlands raid, which is the point you probably want to turn raids off because the game offers no viable protection, at least as far as I've been able to find.

Taking a pickaxe and making a moat around your base with 1 or 2 bridges that you can block or demolish in times of a raid will already make all non-flying mobs unable to reach you.

Using stone and your hoe to make a tall wall of natural stone may not look very pretty but it will work even better.

Stone walls are strong, only take 2 iron (stonecutter) to turn stone into brick.

but ho do i fill my moat with water?

You dont have to. If near the coast you get a moat with water if on land you get a ditch. Both have same affect.

Make an interconnected network of workbenches, since those prevent spawning. I have a small island where I did just that. Let me tell you that watching a raid notification, but no enemies spawn is hilarious.

Seems the only way I'm dying lately is from "unfair" spawnings. The other day I was calmly chasing down a deathneedle when the game spawned 3 Lox and a starred fuling 2 FEET in front of my nose. Yep, died even after running safely away from the Lox. Hard to get any actual work to advance base or acquisitions with the crazy level of spawning going on. I have used workbenches all over the place to some effect, but it seems the MOB just spawn farther away and run into my area. And nighttime is worse, of course.

You didn't do it right then. If you listen you get sound clues that lox and fuling are present even if you experience pop in. If you stop moving and go into sneak mode when you hear them they will pop in before you are on top of them and you can decide what to do then. If you have the attention of a starred fuling run through the lox. They will fight each other and ignore you. If all else fails (or you want to finish off the remainders) pop your Bonemass forsaken power and go to town.

Build a terrain wall or dig a big enough trench to wall out all the enemies. After doing one of those things just litter the area workbenches to prevent spawns within your now enclosed area.

There's actually a few items that prevent spawns, the campfire also being one if ya want something more discreet

Besides provide warmth, it prevents spawning within a radius. Take a look:
