How do I calm down my trapped boars?
Hi all,

I`ve caught two boars and imprisoned them in a good-sized corral, with enough food and far away from fire. I want to tame them obviously but they just don't calm down. I've waited crouching behind a wall for at least 20 minutes, I've made a trip to another island, I've slept and let them alone, but they keep running around in their corral like crazy. How can i calm them down?

Keep your distance and ensure nothing else disturbs them either.

It could be nice if there existed a magical staff or some other spell-like feature to help with taming, at least with this part.

what is important in the tame process is that they are not aggro, the red exclamation above them. Some boars "like" to go back near where they spawned, like farms or boarstones. they can still be tamed and after the process they will keep trying to go back. the important thing is that a Hearth is coming up from them, then you know they are in the taming process

Check that there is no fire sources near them, fire scares boars

Re-read the post again, as they already stated this.

there's only 3 things that can scare them... you the player, hostile mobs, and fire (that includes torches) I know you said you don't have fire nearby but you also said you were hidden... that would leave only hostile mobs as a source but somehow I doubt that is it.

Are they maybe boars spawned by a boar runestone? those keep running around even when not scared, as they always try to return to their stone. If that is it, you should still be able to tame them though despite them running around.

Runestone boars will keep running around even when tamed. Let them have offspring, the piglets won't show this behaviour.

Thanks all for the advice, it finally worked, just took longer than I had expected. I even got the boars to make love to one another and now there's a little piggy in the making.
Build a fence around the corral so the mob doesn't wander around.

The bigger the piggy-pen the more Boars you'll get.
Congratulations, you have achieved unlimited bacon.

The trick is staying in their playfield, but out of sight. If you are on another continent their tamer timer isn't ticking. Stick two of them in a high walled pen full of food. Work on your build nearby. Come back to a pen full of tame boars.
Afaik that's not quite correct. They are taming as long as they don't get hungry, even if you are far away. They just don't eat as long as they are out of rendering range. So just hop by every now and them so they can eat and they will continue the taming process for as long as they aren't hungry again. Basically like with breeding: If you are around they can 'make love' and if they are pregnant the pregnancy progresses even while you are away and when the pregnancy is over, the moment you come into rendering range the little ones plop out.
