is there any kind of console-command to find your boat/other posessions?
Hey guys,

I was sailing my longboat up from my main base to my Mistlands forward-operating base with material for a new workbench, portal, and chest, and a sap tapper that I found in a destroyed Dverger camp. Pretty long sail there, as I had to find waterways between home's dock and forward base, so I was uncovering massive parts of the map to get there... Well provisioned for the trip. Fun, brave adventure...

I lost power due to a thunderstorm. (I prefer Nexus j/k)

When I returned to the game, I was about 60 feet from a black forest shore, out of NOWHERE. The boat was GONE.
GONE.

I had had multiple failings to load the game(this is right after the patch that made worldsave files smaller). Now, what I THINK happened is that my character and my world are not synchronized saves. Maybe one save happened, and the other was interrupted?

I went through both sets of restores, trying to keep my most recently-saved character in the boat that had that newly-found, sap-pump-thing and all those materials aboard. It didn't work. I love the game; I love this, my original world, and my original character. I had to take my lumps, made the best out of what I could, and with my most-recent, loadable character, I entered my most-recent, loadable world.

I got together some food, and built a SEARCH boat, now, and ever since that storm, I've been combing the map-reveal paths for where the boat might've been saved. I haven't been back to the mistlands since. Just spend sessions here and there, when I have time to play at all, sailing the oceans, looking for my boat with the sap thing. I now have a handful of BOAT SEARCH boat repair camps...

If there's such a command, can I tell the console to list coordinates, or something, where a computer search finds hits on "Longship", or something?

Any other ideas?

Thanks for any time giving it thought...

There isn't as far as I know, but there is a way to turn on a boat marker in ValheimPlus

https://valheim.thunderstore.io/package/Grantapher/ValheimPlus_Grantapher_Temporary/

; Display carts and boats on the map
displayCartsAndBoats = false <--- change this to true in the config.

You could use the console command "fly". If you hold down the sprint button while flying you move at portal travel speed. If you remember the ~location, being in the air over water should make it easy to spot.

On thing to note. Your character and the world ARE 2 different saves (that's why you can have one character travel through several different worlds). There have been known bugs where disconnects cause your tombstone (and the gear it contains) to simply disappear.

In any case, good luck.

The boat is part of the world, it should be lost somewhere around the last autosave point. Searching all that potential space is no small feat. Player location is stored in their own information, which may not save at the same time.

Look for save editors or mods to save the day.

You're never going to find that boat. I'd consider getting your stuff back from a boat you lost as a result of a crash or power loss an acceptable use of devcommands.

I always do a manual save on land (usually by sleeping) every in-game day just in case something like this happens.

If power failures are frequent in your area I'd invest in an UPS. They aren't that expensive.

I've seen this one on a list but never actually used it.

find [object] [pingmax#] - Finds matching objects and pings them on the map. Pingmax# defaults to 1; if greater, this cheat will place pins on the map instead.

adding to it, if I remember correctly the [object] name for the long ship is vikingship.
with the devcommands enabled you should be able to autocomplete the name of the Object pressing TAB.. but it will only ping if the object is in the active area, it does not seach the entire world

I FOUND IT!!!

Thank you guys for your suggestions. I learned a few things, with pausing, flying, ping, etc. Ultimately, I just ended up continuing into, what I thought, was a less likely last-known location, but, Here it is!!

I found it way over here to the West. I spent WEEKS looking in the East!

Eh, that's variable. You can certainly find cheap ones but whether those actually work when you need them is a crapshoot. The simplest UPS is hosting your server on a laptop.

Agree. Our power will "flicker" quite often. We have a couple "good" UPS's with voltage regulators to smooth that out for the computer/TV/router/etc. They are big enough that when we do have an actual outage we have 15-20 minutes to save and quit a game.

A "must have" as far as I'm concerned and just another "component" of the system. You put a lot of effort into choose a CPU, GPU, storage, cooling, case, power supply ... well that wiz-bang power supply isn't doing you any good when your power flickers, spikes, or simply cuts out. :steamhappy:
