Blueprints
Hi,
is it planned on the roadmap to implement any form of blueprints in the future? like factorio where you can also share your blueprints with friends in a coop play?
Thing is... i am terrible at building houses. they look ugly and are simply functional. a friend of mine on the other hand is a genius at building and i would like to use his houses in my single player game.
and i know the solutions 😂 get better at building, learn from him, use mods.... nevertheless, is it planned?

Plea to the devs: please do not ruin this game with blueprints; there's no need for them, and if you balance around people having access to them, it will ruin the game for everyone else who doesn't use them.

There's no good reason, neither for the lore nor in the gameplay.

To the OP: If you want blueprints, go play the factory games... where they make sense. Factorio, Satisfactory, Dyson Sphere Program...

Otherwise, I'm on the "git gud" team for the first time... ever. Follow your own advice, and get better. Learn to build, or at least learn to copy those who can. Blueprints would absolutely destroy this game.

You don't need the outside to look good. To a true Viking, all his buildings will look good.

Besides, there's a blueprint mod. Ignore the gatekeepers and do what you want.

I pretty much suck at making my buildings aesthetically pleasing. I was an engineer before I retired not an architect (so they are extremely functional rather than pretty). My solution is to find a nice spot to build and then thumb through some images of nice looking buildings/houses and try to build a close approximation with the tools available (at least on the outside) with maybe a bit of my own personal flair placed here and there.

That has satisfied my desire for aesthetics enough to go forward with. Perhaps it can work for you.

Okay okay, it was just a question. no need to be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. and why would it "destroy" the game? XD its kind of funny how a simple question or feature in a game YOU dont even have to use "destroys" a game... is it possible you are a drama queen? or do you mean it for real? like adding this feature to this game would destroy the source code and the game wouldnt be available afterwords, never again? then okay, this would be the only (the ONLY) way your post would make any sense and i would apologize.

and because i know there is already a mod for this feature, is the game already destroyed? or is it now half destroyed? i dont know... can other people still play the game? please, enlighten me.

and dont get me wrong, i didnt ASK the devs to add this feature. if it isnt planned i am just fine. my question was if it is on the roadmap or not

Same, i tend to make all of my buildings squares or rectangles. Interior design can vary, but they're all geometrically perfect (Or as much as i can afford it).
Except for my first house. It sucks, and it looks like a pile of straw, and it's just a wide open space, and it's full of chests on the wall, and it has an overhang for chimney. But i still love it.

Aesthetics aside, building within the game does force me to plan better. When I start a new seed I take days just to find a site and then collect materials since I tend to build raised terrain citadels with moats, etc. This along with teleport restrictions and "the grind" can really stretch out a game for those of us who are overly cautious (day 700 before I even entered the Infested Citadel) but I'm sympathetic to some form of creative mode where we could at least try blueprints and perhaps gauge the area and material costs of some of these structures we see in videos and screenshots.

I hear you. Actual viking construction wasn't really aesthetically pleasing and much of what you mention mirrors their own buildings.

@Dynamiez If you don't mind mods and are allowed to use them on your server, I have seen a mod called "PlanBuild" on Nexusmod.com. Originally, a mod, "Buildshare", was used but it hasn't been updated in almost a year. Players are posting their blueprints on the Nexusmod site for people to download as well. Personally, I have not used the mod so I can't say how stable it is.

Edit: I apologize I didn't read all of your post and see you already know about it.

I have almost 800 hours in this game and I would say about 70-80% of that time is base building.

Blueprints would speed things up but then honestly who would care about this game anymore? Once you beat all the biomes you'll just quit.

The best part of the game is exploring a new location in some far off place on the map and building yourself a foothold there.

Yeah I don't want to have this option in my game either, would be de-motivating

+1 I would love to see this as an option. Would make the game so much better.

This shows you how to TRANSFORM your rectangle house, it really seemed very helpful to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I60JNTnBHRU

I very much doubt that blueprints will ever be part of Valheim.
I was a garbage builder at first but I made a separate building character and map, and used dev commands to do creative building. I learned A LOT and mastered the structural integrity system so that now when I play my regular game, I can build whatever I want. I'm still bad at the decorating part tho.

Imagine building something you like, or has functionality as a modular component for future builds, something you want to put away and finish later, or just something you want to remember exactly how you constructed. Anyone who has ever built anything virtual, ever, knows these needs. But now imagine some of the same people actively arguing *against* being able to save builds.

It's 2024 now, and as a new player who already knows how to build: PlanBuild has been awesome in the few weeks I used it prior to the latest game update; and it's now broken. Not totally broken, but I'm surprised that it hasnt been fixed/forked. It's far too useful to just let it fall apart.
Whats the deal? Are we living in the hellscape described by the naysayers above? Where the only users are using import/paste exclusively...so they dont notice the new bugs? Is nobody building anything new?.. and therefore nobody needs to be able to see what they have selected or be able to paint?

I just build, man. It's not that serious.
