No skill drain?
I've noticed a significant loss in skill points (across the board) after dying over and over again. Every time, it would tell me there was no skill drain. What am I missing here?

Also, when my skills are drained, is it random? Or, does it have something to do with what I was doing at the time?

Thank you.

No skill drain is a buff you get from dying that prevents further skill drain if you die again in this time. Dying without the buff will drain all skills by 5%

i plated my first game thinking EXACTLY this...... much to my horror when i screenshotted my nakedness after death and my skills had plummeted ... i restarted game and new character.. and been on that same world ever since so use that SHORT time of no skill drain to get your stuff back if you can

No skill drain lasts 10minutes, it's one of the reasons it's wise to create a "Res portal" if you're going on any significant exploration, because it will take well over 10minutes to recover your gear via a boat trip.

Good advice. :)

I'm sure we weren't the only players confused by this. I appreciate the support. :) Perhaps they should also show an icon depicting the actual skill loss as well. Might be more new player friendly.

I noticed recently that, if you die repeatedly trying to recover your body and leave a few grave markers around with a bit of stuff in them that you picked up on your recovery runs, not only can they be used as temporary "free" chests (I already knew that), but they also can be used in the future to get the corpse run buff. Unfortunately, if you use them as a chest (put stuff in them), that negates the corpse run (according to the wiki).

They are also quite visible from a distance, which can be handy for navigation markers and such.

If you have a particularly dangerous area that you frequent, you might want to consider some strategic placement of grave markers next time you meet an untimely demise in that area.

I try to avoid making grave markers whenever possible. :)
