follow coastlines until fish are close and try there? or pickup ones that jump on shore, or use the hoe or hammer to build fish traps.

You don't just blindly reel in anymore. The fish go through fight/rest cycles marked by wiggling. Stop reeling while they fight. If you fish from shore, you can also drag fish onto land using the rod and then pick them up. I also try to limit casts to less than 5m. Finally, use the 'e' key to grab them when they are close to you and out of the water.

Bonus: fishing levels from reeling, not catching. You can level by just max casting on dry land and reeling back in over and over. No fish is required.

The quickest way to level up fishing is to cast your line as far as you can, then reel it in to around 16m. If you see a larger fish is approaching your bobber reel you line in to 9m or less. You gain experience while reeling in your line, this is why I suggest to maximize your initial cast. Recently I have been fishing while standing on the very edge of my boat after giving it one quick row to set it in slow motion and have been very successful. If I lose a fish due to low stamina, I drop my line in with 5-7m of line out and 9 out of 10 times I am able to catch it without using the assistance of a stamina potion.

I left my boat a short distance from the shoreline and several fish ended up inside the boat lol.

That video (Which lies because there is no FAST way to level fishing, lmao) probably mentioned this, but keep any Level 1 perch you find. You can use these to build a Fishing skill pond, ideally 30M in length by 2 but no more than 4 wide, cast your line and drag it in, fish will nibble, the speed at which they hook is tied to how many fish you catch, so more fish is faster skill, usually you need 20+ Perch in a pond that size to get consistent bites without waiting before you drag to 25m or lower.

Go to about skill level 50 using this method, then I'd recommend going into a new world you don't care about, and sailing to the far north and south to catch the fish in the unfinished biomes, bring these back to your old world and craft the fishing hat with the rest of the fish.

We catch the Northern Salmon and Magmafish in a virgin world so we don't mess up our real world with all our assets and bases on it.

That video actually talks about doing exactly that; the fastest way to level fishing is to... well... fish.

It also mentions that it doesn't matter what kind of fish you're catching, as far as "skill-up" is concerned; since low-level perch bite the fastest and are the easiest to reel in, stocking your "fish farm" with them makes perfect sense.

Yeah, my only point of contention is that it's not possible to "Quickly" level fishing, even with the optimal fish farm, you're gonna be fishing for a long ass time, lol.

Fishing has been screwed, blued and tattooed at this point. they took a fun little mini-game and borked it completely. Sad times.
