Can't place Dvergr lantern?

The Dvergr themselves place lanterns all over their towers (where you can pick them up) but we have no way to do so, even using the usual horizontal mount. Why not? Why are the hanging versions the only ones available (and requiring chain which is expensive).

you can just drop them at a spot. its a bit of a pain to do that because if not careful you pick it back up unwanted sometimes, but if its out of your way like the far corner of a big table, it kinda works.
I did not try it but it may also count as offhand on an armor rack (?) if you want to try that.

What am I missing? Chain only comes from swamp crypts and dead wraiths. Both with low productivity. Is there a source in the Mistlands?

Chains are a limited-use resource that is guaranteed to drop and they are pretty easy to hunt in swamps during night – higher level creatures like fulings or seekers won't spawn in swamps during the night (according to wiki). They can also be found in crypts as loot.

there IS a source in the mistlands. and its a 100% drop too. but its not common. these dvergr cranes you can sometimes find. if you destroy these theyll drop a chain aswell.

and tbh these lanterns provide too little light currently compared to other infintie sources. not worth useing imo aside for decoration. for which you can just make the wall and post ones.

if you wanna use a display just put a dvergr circlet on it. way better light source and available earlier. coins are useless at lategame anyway.

You don't need many of them is the key, and you need like 10k units of iron, so by this time, I guess I was mostly assuming you had found and stashed enough. But yes, the ML drops them here and there, though faster and easier to zip through a swamp at night and get 3 or so once in a while. If you plan to make hundreds of the new lamp posts, that could be a little annoying.

The discussion of chains seems beside the point. No, they are not easy to obtain and even if you disagree, the Dvergr themselves frequently place them on tables or other surfaces. We should be able to do that as well. The horizontal stand mechanic is well defined, just add the lanterns to the list of displayables. I'm not interested in workarounds. There is no good reason for this exclusion that I can see.

Devs! Please include this in the next minor patch! Thanks.

Chain is a pain in the ass to farm and requires a fix. That's it.

The lanterns are not well implemented to begin with. They look nice but cast almost no usable light. The exclusion from placing them on surfaces is arbitrary and makes no sense. They don't render until you are very close to them so they fail as beacons. Their use as hand lanterns is almost nil given how late in the game they become available. If they were belt lanterns they might almost be usable but wisplights are better anyway. They need to be improved all-around other than appearance.

They are AFAIK the first craftable hardware component of other recipes so maybe we could make chain too? Pretty please?

I miss the option to place the Dvergr Lanterns too. Was happy to find them for the first time and meeh, i cant place them on a table corner or on the map table ... shame ...

yea chains are valuable, you can get a couple if you go to swamps just cut trees at night and the goast that drops them will come, maybe... also the raid with goasts drop them, if you are fast you can get up to 10 per raid. and they can be in chests in the crypts and in the middle of spawners if there is a chest...

The chests on the islands in swamps are the best place to get lots of chains. Just kill the spawners and loot the chest and you'll get a half dozen of them or so.

These are the exact problems that mods fix. We shouldn't need mods for some things like lanterns and craftable chains but we have them.

gotta admit this is the first I'm hearing of people thinking chains are a scarce resource - y'all just have bad RNG on swamp chests or do you not fight wraiths or what? I'm usually drowning in chains by the time I get to the plains.
