Why is mistlands gear IRON instead of black iron??
Why would you send me back basically 3 biomes to mine a depleting resource?
Why isn't black iron the main ingredient post Moder? Was a replenishable, farmable resource going to cut literally dozens of hours off of players play-times? Can't have that can we? No, send em back to the effing swamp?? why? i already have to farm the leeches, grinding at exploration / mining is waaaaay less fun or interesting than hunting Furlings. NO NO NO, you MUST find a new swamp with AT LEAST 10 crypts per player.

what. the. ♥♥♥♥.

The bridge or aquaduct ruins have iron frames, you can break their marble with a stonecutter and pick away the lowest layer for complete collapse. And what you get is processed iron, no smelting required.
Good to know 👍

You get ~30 iron per pillar in a bridge, and you don't need much iron for mistlands gear anyway (at least not like previous armor/weapons). There's no reason to go back to swamps unless you want to.

You can also get over 120 copper from a dwarf tower, if you're wanting to make use of the copper walls.

Everything you need for mistlands gear can be easily farmed in mistlands or the occasional divert into neighbouring plains (drag some beetles for extra fun).

the problem with black metal is that it is plentiful. Much more accessible than iron.

And this clashes with the game designers philosophy that everything needs to be as tedious as possible.

Nailed it. I can run out into the plains at night and reliably come back with a stack of black metal, every night. That's not nearly punishing enough, you're supposed to hate yourself after farming materials.
Doesn't sound like a fun gaming experience if that's your case.

Obvious, but irrelevant, answer - because the developer's team called IRON Gate. Not Bronze Gate, not Black Metal Gate, not Death Metal Gate, not Power Metal Gate. IRON Gate!!!

I actually appreciate the fact that they keep many of the resources something you need going forward. Like having to collect raspberries for potions or red mushrooms for higher tier food.

Yep, the devs really need to iron this out.

You can mine iron from those ancient giant armors which you can find in mistlands as an alternative to swamps. As to why they chose iron over black metal, no clue.

The swords as well, and they are all over the Mistlands. I have had no problem maintaining a supply of iron. And it's less of a slog than the swamp.

Also, if you topple the giant Dvengr bridge segments. There is iron rebar inside that will actually drop as iron bars, not even scrap. Just dig out the dirt and watch it crumble.

I actually appreciate the way that items and crafting always have resources from previous biomes. Otherwise there is little point in continuing to use your hub locations or using the ships to move metal around from place to place.

Find one of those tall towers in the Mistlands, and remove/destroy the marble pieces at the bottom. Then, break some of the iron with a pickaxe. Stacks of iron bars and marble will rain down on you :) I found a trio of towers and did this. In about 10 mins I completely filled my Longboat with iron and marble.

What's more interesting is that IG doesn't want to return to Plains to actually finish it. Alternative source of iron should've been added to Plains, not Mistlands. Moreover, for some reason, you can't mine corroded iron in Mistlands with refined iron (iron pick). Its obligatory to make black metal pickaxe, because reasons. Superb gAmE dEsIgN, what else can you say?
