It is quite stupid.. only thing I can think of is they were worried people would lose their mats by accidentally dismantling them maybe?
Maybe it's an anti-grief feature? People could drop a workbench and instantly dismantle your vehicles with no real defense or ability to react.
OMG that would be hilarious.. haha.. another reason I do not play with random people.. would never have crossed my mind lol
That's what I'm thinking. It would be the easiest way to permanently lose the cargo.
The cargo (regardless of what it is) floats in crates if the ship is destroyed. The crates can be destroyed too though.
