That said, the "save" command now makes sure to do a character save as well as a world save as of the most recent patch, so you might want to make a mental note to do that before setting out to see with a full load, just to be safe.
Your boat is probably still out there, btw, waiting for you to find it. I use a mod that puts map markers on boats and carts specifically as an 'in case' something like this happens.

Ya the boat wasn't there. Half of it was fish. So it was more like 3 hrs. Plus the 1hr I just wasted looking for the boat. (Manage Saves is useless) And ya, I've put in over 1000 hrs, had a whole world lost before. Been there done that. So I guess I'm just getting sick of it at this point.
I would honestly like to know the reasoning to having such a BAD save system. Been playing video games for 35 yrs. Does Valheim consider being able to hit ESC, and select a 'Save', or 'Save As' option, too easy? To simple?
A system that has been 99.99% common place since video games were created...
- you can restore the world file, and your boat will be where you left it, assuming it was not in materials on your person. This undoes all your exploration and world edits including changes to chest contents since the save file selected (usually you want the next to last, the .old one).
- you can restore your person file, if the boat were in your bag.
- you can cheat in another boat.
- if well established, you can eat the loss and just keep going.
- the boat may be where you left it. you could attempt a raft-recovery.
its a good idea to force a save at key points if you have stability issues. You can do that by logging out, but the menus changed, I don't know if there is a better way now. Like if you are about to take a boat ride, or collected ore for 2 hours ... force that save. And, if not already, keep backups.
