Game crashes; so I lose my boat?
So I'm sailing away, super far from my base (of course) the game crashes... I boot up, to my guy spawning in his bed... I'm sorry, I was out in the middle of nowhere (DIDNT DIE) and what, now my boats out in the middle of fkin no where?? Why, would a crash result in a different spawn point, SOO FKING STUPID

Your character didn't get a chance to save apparently (because of the crash) and spawned back at his bind. If a crash causes me a significant loss, I find this an acceptable time to replace the most important of the lost item[s] with devcommands. But do what feels right to you.

If you aren't willing to accept that this sort of thing might happen, Early access probably is something you should avoid in the future. Even just whether saves will be compatible before and after an update (i.e you have to start completely over) is something that can, and does, happen in Early access titles. 2 hours of lost time is nothing in comparison to that.

That said, the "save" command now makes sure to do a character save as well as a world save as of the most recent patch, so you might want to make a mental note to do that before setting out to see with a full load, just to be safe.

Your boat is probably still out there, btw, waiting for you to find it. I use a mod that puts map markers on boats and carts specifically as an 'in case' something like this happens.

i read in a Valheim problem page somewhere that the game save is only a world save and not your character.. whereas logging out saves both .. so in effect your stuff is most likely in water near boat where-ever that was.. was you Character naked or had their gear ? ps its an EA game these things happen and the list it probably very long

Ya the boat wasn't there. Half of it was fish. So it was more like 3 hrs. Plus the 1hr I just wasted looking for the boat. (Manage Saves is useless) And ya, I've put in over 1000 hrs, had a whole world lost before. Been there done that. So I guess I'm just getting sick of it at this point.

I would honestly like to know the reasoning to having such a BAD save system. Been playing video games for 35 yrs. Does Valheim consider being able to hit ESC, and select a 'Save', or 'Save As' option, too easy? To simple?

A system that has been 99.99% common place since video games were created...

you have choices.
- you can restore the world file, and your boat will be where you left it, assuming it was not in materials on your person. This undoes all your exploration and world edits including changes to chest contents since the save file selected (usually you want the next to last, the .old one).
- you can restore your person file, if the boat were in your bag.
- you can cheat in another boat.
- if well established, you can eat the loss and just keep going.
- the boat may be where you left it. you could attempt a raft-recovery.

its a good idea to force a save at key points if you have stability issues. You can do that by logging out, but the menus changed, I don't know if there is a better way now. Like if you are about to take a boat ride, or collected ore for 2 hours ... force that save. And, if not already, keep backups.

The same thing happened to me yesterday. I lost a bunch of itens stashed in my boat and woke up in my bed. I love this game, but it's the second time and i'm seriously thinking about stop playing.
