Valheim

Valheim

spawns on my seed suddenly out of control
so i've had 2 temporary coastal bases going for a while which are very close to each other, one is in a plains area (my flax/barley farm) and the other is a simple meadows backup base, and today, pretty much out of nowhere, the spawnrates of necks, deer, boars and greylings have gone crazy, specifically in the space between these 2 basecamps.

i literally had to deploy wolves as sentries just to keep the spawnrates in check but its still so intense that they just keep on spawning pretty much before they can be killed off.
in the time it takes me to run from one base to the other, nearly all the mobs will have respawned (and it only takes about 20-30 seconds of sprinting to get from A to B).

i like the fact that i'm getting tons of free meat and resin, but to be honest this is a bit over the top, and i'd like for it to stop, particularly because they keep spooking the lox i am trying to tame which have increased the tame time quite significantly.

i tried putting workbenches around because people keep telling me those work like de-spawners, but that didn't do squat, and for obvious reasons making campires or other fire-related buildables is out of the question because again, that will spook the lox.

what the hell do i do? is my game bugging? why do these mobs just keep on coming despite despawners being put in place?!
i even chopped down half the forest in an attempt to deal with it, but it changed nothing.

I had something like that whith birds.
The air was full and i counted the ones on the ground to over 50.
It was one day and then it was gone.

1. Are you using mods?
2. Deer and birds spawn even in places that have full anti-spawn coverage. (Likely a bug or perhaps intentional since they deal no damage)

no mods at all. my server is made for an authentic experience for me and my few buddies who came back to check mistlands, and we agreed to a no-mods playthrough.

damn thats weird.
i wish i had that problem compared to the gazillion mobs, especially since we are in need of feathers.

Have you tried leaving your base, maybe having a sleep elsewhere, and coming back later the next day?

I have a base I just built in meadows that is directly bordering the plains and the spawn time of meadows creatures is off the charts, so much so that the deathsquitos and lox are a problem since they chase everything. Every time they clear out the meadows creatures, they all get respawned and try again. It's just constant fighting. And since lox and many other things will attack lights, I can't put up any anti-spawn measures. Even after clearing the fuling camp, lox, and deathsquitos and putting down anti-spawn lights, they still spawn and destroy all my lights... I hear this gets fixed in the experimental build.

I've noticed this many times as well around a meadows base. I'll often log in, notice a ridiculous amount of glittering drops, and head out to clean them up to take the load off the server, and as I do, I'll end up combing through dozens of deer, boars, necks, and birds all at once. never saw anything like it on the worlds I ran in 2021.

I had a goblin night patrol spawn inside my raised and walled off farm filled with torches, so the spawning system and its parameters aren't perfect, but no crazy amounts of meadows creatures other than Necks that aren't enjoying being surrounded by swamp and plains

there is something wrong
the game appear to throw mobs even in the slightest uncovered area on the fly
i do stuff - turn around - turn back - and a mob spawned
had to place more fires in order to get them in check, still the game throws a mob here and there but i managed to keep them mostly outside

i think the workbench anti spawn radius need a revision
maybe a better display for the coverage or extended coverage via optional extra wood spend after the workbench was build

bro one of my buds made a dock on our main base, we put fires, torches, even a hearth in there, and there's this pesky neck that just keeps spawning right under the bridge, which then constantly proceeds to attack our boats/ships.
not to mention that whenever it spawns, the wolves we want to transport on our longboat goes berserk, jumps off the ship and gets stuck under said bridge, because they can't find their way back out due to pathing (it will attempt to go through the stairs leading up to the bridge instead of swimming back out at the front).

at this point we just said **** it and left a wolf there to constantly kill this neck whenever it spawns.

The only way I can explain that is if your two bases/spawn prevention are blocking all the nearby spawn locations, so that one space (between your bases) that still allows spawns nearby basically gets all the spawns of the area - but I'm not sure if it works that way.

The only time I encountered something like that was while building an island base, which at one point only had a small "dead space" of spawn prevention, which then got flooded with creatures (in that case Necks and Boars) spawning literally as fast as killed there.

Try to either patch up your spawn prevention in that area (workbenches and the like do work, but keep in mind, even just a millimeter of uncovered terrain not in their radius will allow spawns there), or make room for them to spawn more spread out nearby else.

i fixed mine up as good as possible
i left an area open for boars to spawn - they panick, run around and end up beeing taken out by my sharp stakes - free boar meat every day XD

in the mean time i fixed stuff up so mobs only wandering in from time to time
have to metion i build my village in a border section (pains - meadows - black forest and a bit of swamp) there is always action going on and with every boss beaten the action reaches a level XD fun stuff going on at night

...
Not quite that way. There's a limit on the number of any one creature in an area, beyond this they won't spawn. But that wouldn't increase the spawn rate for that spawner, the timer and number-at-once is fixed - it would happen over time, but until the limit's reached it may happen every time.
