On the other hand I'm not above just chucking some bonfires out past the perimeter wall to push back spawns some more and aid illumination. Most things won't attack fire since it hurts them.
There is a work bench hidden inside the beehive area. The guard shacks at the gates hold, work bench, forge, and stone cutter so that stone walls and iron gates can be repaired. The hay loft in the barn holds and hides a couple more work benches and my boars and wolves.
Outside in open areas I'll dig down and put the work bench there and then use shift click to leave a gap in the flooring I cover it with so it won't break. (Camp fire works for that too). Open walkways get torches or a pole with a sconce If I'm worried about aesthetics or path obstruction.
The work bench for my dock is hidden above the ceiling of the boat house. The boat house (one on the north end and one on the south end of the island) holds all the materials to rebuild a Karve and long boat, a cart for ore, and a portal that goes to the main base.
Its actually surprisingly easy to get aesthetically suitable antispawn coverage after you have finished construction with the work benches. Though I have noticed that it doesn't stop birds or deer from spawning inside if you built over a spawn point.
