Valheim

Growth's are stupidly overpowered!!
They jump around and shoot you from the air like a Quake player on speed! WTF devs?? They can see through dirt walls, they know exactly where you are at all times. Their accuracy and damage is stupidly high. They can lob their shots over buildings, stone or dirt. Even when there is no line of sight and you cant see them, they can still see you and hit you?? How? How do they see through dirt and stone walls? Do they have a tar radar?
I don't understand such a game mechanic in a game like Valheim. Its so out of place and unnecessarily hard and annoying.

Use a poison potion. Then try using a shield and a mace, jump on them and BASH; (or) Use arrows from a distance; (or, my favorite...) Kite other enemies to the tar pit and let the chaos ensue. Growths are one of the best designed enemies in the game and they can still take me out if I'm not paying attention (after 900+ hours).
Kiting other enemies into the tar has its downsides. You can't pick up any of the drops because you get the "stuck in the tar" message.

True, though, to be fair, I want that precious tar so I will be draining that tar pit soon enough.

As others have said. Dodge and roll or block with heavy shield and shoot with fire arrow. I use the latter method personally because I can be a lot more lazy. ;P

Yea i have learned to manage the fights somewhat when there is only one growth. Just block their shots with a shield and go in for the kill. There are like 10-15 sec between their shots. But if there are 2 or 3 tars, forget about it. Its running, and kiting and using the bow like an idiot trying to keep your stamina up hoping not meeting a dethsquito or a fueling.. Problem is i spend all my stamina just running and avoiding their shots. So fighting them becomes impossible. Thats just stupid.
Its just not right how they can see me from like 100 meters distance when there is terrain between us. I cant even see their tarpit, but they are already on me. Thats bull.

Would they be weak to fire damage? I would think so, but I have not tried fire arrows on them. I have encountered them, and they wrecked me (and I have something like 250 hours in the game). But, engaging from a distance with a dragr bow and high bow skill, and you should be able to take one down in about two hits. I didn't try killing them until I had the dragr bow, higher leveled character, a friend to help kite them, and strong food.

just drain the pit and you can pick everything up after the battle is over.

They are, but carrying around fire arrows specifically for that purpose is hardly ideal unless your base is in the Plains or something and there's tar pit nearby.

What you should not use are pierce, slash and frost weapons, though Frostner will do just fine (as it always does) thanks to triple damage types.

Strafe right or left while shooting fire arrows to avoid their attack. I fight them similarly to how i fight dragons.

They are very punishing if you mess up. get hit once in a group of 3-4 and its all over, you will keep being hit if you do not have some cover, because the slow lasts long enough for them to take turns shooting you. They are noisy, and the plains are flat: its hard to not see them from afar so mistakes are rare. Couple of bowshots and you can clear the pit safely from way back.

Tar pits are usually (but not always) by Fuling villages. I find them to be the best way to start a village raid. Put on Fenris armor and use the Eikthyr power to run through the village and draw them to the tar pit. The Fulings will win but will lose a lot in the process. Then as others have said park workbenches around the pit to stop re-spawns and dig a channel to drain the pit. More tar than you know what to do with and you will likely also find a lot of black metal from the Fulings who fought the growths (but lost).

I do. I need the tar for building but usually when I run across a tar pit I'm busy doing something else. In that case I'll kill all the growths, drop work benches so no more growths spawn and the stuck goodies don't despawn, and mark the spot on my map so I can come back later, drain the pit, and pick up every thing.

Fire staff trivializes them, but yeah...they are pretty tough when you first come across them in mountains gear.
DeMasked 24 ENE 2023 a las 2:36 p. m.
Growths can be dangerous if you are fighting a group of them. Usually I'll slowly go up to the tar pit hoping to get 1 or 2 and then move back while they hop / inch their way to me.

Wait for both to fire their volley while strafing to either side before rushing in to kill one and then back off to eventually deal with the other. Spirit Damage applies to them so a silver weapon like Frostner is good or the Iron Sledge though your movement speed would be lessened.

At least once you clear a pit you will only deal with groups of 2 when they respawn so it isn't as hard when coming across 4 or so. You can also lure other enemies into fighting the growths. Fuling Villages and Lox are pretty good temporary allies in this case.

Enemy has rapid fire ranged attack so ---> Bow>Melee.
If something is too challenging change your tactics, failing that upgrade your gear.
