frostner is the better weapon overall, but the silver sword probably does a little more damage to yagluth since it deals more spirit damage. If you have the sword, use it, otherwise make the frostner and just use that.

Yeah, I always use Frostner.

Frostner might be one of the best weapons in the game overall, if not the best. Sure we have weapons with better stats now but you build it in the mountains, and it still is incredibly powerful in mistlands. The knockback, the frost damage, the slow, all that together make it ridiculous. It's in the same category as the finewood bow of overal usefulness, you can build it in the meadows, skip the huntsman bow as it isn't worth it and finally upgrade it in the mountains, heck it's still killing fullings without a lot of problems.

Ty guys. I do like it as well and in previous play thrus I have used it. This is the first time I will officially fight Yag (never had a reason til now with Mistlands) so wanted confirmation.

Godspeed, Kalysm. May Odin guide you.

The high end weapons do between 95 and ~105 damage, though that damage may be split between several types.
Freeze damage is good for ALL enemies as it slows them down and allows you time to escape or recover or just hit them lots of times before they can hit you again.

blackmetal sword is the highest-available dps for yagluth.

but of the 2 you selected, frostner.
I usually opt for the silver sword, because its what I typically have higher skill in, because I use the silver sword to kill just about everything, once you aquire it. The Frostner also seems if I remember right, a bit slower and shorter in range. But, it is a one handed hammer, so its good at dealing blunt damage and smashing soft and brittle things, and Yag Boi seems to count.

Either one works fine. But as others pointed out, Frostner is a must-have for the next biome - Mistlands - so be sure to create one regardless of which weapon you choose to take on Yagluth.

Silver Sword worked perfectly well enough for me when I killed Yag. *shrug*

Yagluth is resistant to slash & pierce damage, so despite what the majority of guides recommend, Blackmetal Sword (or any sword) is not the best weapon to physically damage him. Although Yagluth is not weak against blunt damage, he does not resist it as he does slash & pierce, therefore Frostner is the better weapon both physically and elementally as it applies spirit damage which is his weakness.

I killed him solo with a Frostner and a Black Metal Shield, though I think dodge roll is way more useful than shield for this particular fight. Bring a fire resistance potion.

Just play the game. Min-maxing spoils the fun out of gaming

He's only resistant to piercing, not slashing, according to Valheim Fandom wiki...? Basically, Yagluth is a skeleton, so he's resistant to piercing, though he is not weaker to blunt than most of the other damage types.

Frostner is an essential weapon so if you're not interested in mining stupid amounts of silver for the sword that has a better variant available in each of the following biomes, go with that. You also won't need blackmetal sword for anything. A tower shield would work best since you can't parry the boss, but there's hardly any need to make one specifically for that fight if you already have black metal shield.

I am not min/maxing. I never use a sword because I concentrate on blunt due to Bonemass and the swamp biome. I already have a frostner and some silver left over to start crafting one which is why I asked. I will forego the Silver sword due to the responses. Ty all. I possibly may make a black metal one though. Not sure may just make a porcupine.
