Empty frost caves
Buddy and I are having trouble with frost caves. Our first playthrough months ago we cleared 7 or 8 of them and never got enough material to make even 1 fenris armor set. Now we're doing a 2nd playthrough, cleared the 2 that were on a mountain near us and found a grand total of 3 fenris hair.

We're sure we clear each one. We take Stagbreaker and smash everywhere to make sure there's no hidden paths. We also have never found a cultist trophy, ever. So I guess my question is, are we supposed to check every frost cave in the world to get enough mats to make and upgrade an armor set? That doesn't seem fun, especially considering you can get the other light armor sets by just murdering the big things that are pretty easy to find. Will we eventually find a cave with like 40 fur in it? Why don't the fenris that spawn outside at night drop their fur? That would make it so much more reliable and fun but still time consuming being that we still need 150 fur.

Much like crypts and burial chambers, the frost caves are subject to random generation. So sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. I once had a swamp crypt with a grand total of zero iron and about 3 yellow mushrooms. Each hallway at the entrance was just sealed off, no way forward. It happens. I've had frost caves that are pretty large with many cultist chambers, have scored upwards of 20-30 fenris hair. And I've had duds. Roll of the dice when you explore a new cave, just have to keep looking, I think. For good caves and silver for that matter, try the really big mountains. Smaller mountains are hit and miss. Big ones usually pay off.

are you sure to collect the ones hanging off the walls? You can get 8 just from those rooms..

Yea, I missed that you have to shoot or throw spear at the drapes to get the loot, the first caves.

Best way to get the hair off the wall and just an all-around good weapon to have in the Mountains is a sledgehammer.

"those rooms" are not even in half the caves we explore.

As I said in the original post, we sledgehammer every wall and corner. Most of our caves are dead ends with only bats and 2-3 fenris hair.

Its not just the rooms, its also in the tiny side areas, I had almost enough after 2 caves, theres loads of hidden areas to pickaxe through, drapes to attack etc

I've missed a few passageways hidden behind ice walls you can shatter...be on a lookout for those.

But yes, some Frost Caves are less...rewarding than others.
