Is controller support good?

Yes, the controls are fully mapped and work well. There are even button combinations for splitting stacks of items and dropping them from the inventory. The only thing is missing is a in-game popup keyboard. I don't know if the Steam Big Picture mode onscreen keyboard works because I've never tried though.

I run both KB and Xbox clone controller, great 'hybrid' hot swap support, eliminates the use of the virtual keyboard. I use the hotkeys from the KB to extend the usefulness of the controller. The only glitchiness is when I bring up the console with Rstick + Lstick, if you don't activate the Rstick FIRST, you'll bring up the F2 binding...underneath the console???

The controller support is why I purchased the title, I really like using the controller. If I'm running sideways, I can 'snap' back to a Forward facing direction with the LTrigger/block binding. I used to be able to use the Ltrigger to align my crop planting, but with the recent update, I have to release the Ltrigger to actually 'plant' the crop.

Recently though, I've noticed I have to unplug/replug my controller to get Valheim to recognize the input?!? Used to just 'work', now it's needs to be hard reset?!? Simple USB hub with switches fixed that, lol....just reach up and click off/on and good to go!

its ok. You can technically do everything with the controller. You have to use steam to remap for the moment. If you do that you need to plug and unplug your controller all the time to get it to work right. The onscreen keyboard only works in big picture mode.

I usually play with a controller. But am sitting near my keyboard usually still, and do still use some keyboard functions as well.

Are you sure you've tried the "Swap triggers" option in VH's "Settings -> Controls" GUI?

Old post but thank you for your responses. Personally a controller is very helpful for everything but menu-ing, I use my mouse for that. I should have asked how frustrating the game is going to be.

I am using the Xbox Series X Wireless Controller. That works fine too. But I have to disconnect other controllers, like my HOTAS, from the PC first. Several connected controllers interfere with each other.
