Repairing Tools/Weapons
Has there been any talks of making repairing tools cost SOMETHING and not be completely free?

I love almost every other aspect of this game but the free tool repair is just a giant sore that sticks out. Even if it was something like you can use materials to increase it's durability/damage past the base or something.

Having the tools/weapons just be free real estate to repair has always taken the wind out of me when playing this game.

Immersion-wise, would be nice for the tools/weapons to have reduced stats once their durability reaches 50%. Then you will have to go back to the grinding wheel to sharpen them again. Wheel should break permantely and need replacement after a few uses, thus giving stonecutter an actual purpose. A flashing light on your weapon's icon would be welcomed as well to show you are running out of durability (50%) and need repairs .Kappa.

I'll agree on the durability-based icon color changes. However, with regard to 'sharpening', I don't think people need any more reasons to just use blunt weapons.

Devs add this kind of bs and it'll be starwars galaxies NGE all over again. :cozykcdaxe:

I have to vote no on adding more tedium to the game. It's already tedious to visit four different crafting stations to repair everything with Mistlands gear.

You'll sharpen that hammer and you'll like it!

I know it'd be mostly pointless but I personally would love at least weapon type specific repair animations. We will probably all spam through them so fast we wont even notice the differences but i still would get a kick out of us taking a whetstone to our bladed weapons, but bashing the hammer's head back on again because it's "repair" logic is probably just that it got a bit loose in the handle. Maybe restringing it for the bow/crossbow and i dunno, adjusting the hold on the clubs? Im sure there are some better ideas for those ones, but it would be a neat little immersion detail when it came to repairing gear. (I almost want to see our viking argue with a needle and thread for armor repair, just for the giggle of that one more than the realism of it)

Yeah, the change should be that at some point they don't need to be repaired anymore. It is only annoying. That's it.

At the higher levels is where it's most critical, because higher level tools require quite an extensive amount of resources to be repaired.

I know that most of the time you can just portal back to your base and click the button a couple of times and everything is fixed, but, if you can't get to your base it soon becomes an emergency situation.

As it should be. If you've lost access to the level of technology required to maintain an item then you shouldn't be able to use it indefinitely. In practical terms this should never happen, but if you do get marooned, start a new world, lose your base to a raid and take so long to recover that your smashed benches despawn.

I found it interesting that the black forge can be portaled when a regular forge can't.

anything that's metal wouldn't need additional metal to repair though. Blades and such are repaired in real life with a sharpening stone. Maybe fixing a bow or something would cost material to restring. You can add that in mods though. I don't think it makes sense for the main game.

A system where the bench had inventory slots for repair materials would not bother me. So you added a piece of wood and could repair your hammer x number of times, Or a piece of iron could be used 20 times before it had to be replaced. Not 1 piece 1 repair, a cost, but nothing grindy.

I vote against it because I like the sound of the blacksmith while repairing all your things at once..bling bling bling bling bling :).

That's a good idea but not for the purpose of repairing. I'd like a small inventory in the workbenches just for crafting. Maybe 4 slots. But otherwise you can always place a small inventorybox near it.

It's not often you come across a masochistic complaint in Valheim.
While you may enjoy it, the vast majority of players would not accept this or enjoy it.

The entire discussions here on Steam turned upside down when food was nerfed ever so slightly.

Now imagine what Bob would say if he suddenly found out he now has to spend 1 black metal bar to repair his black metal sword.

Imagine going "Oh, I can't go into the Mistlands right now guys, we're out of black metal and my gear is broken. So we're gonna have to go farm Fulings for 30 minutes or so."

Now imagine having to do that every single time you've been to the Mistlands, or used your weapon too much killing Boars or Greydwarfs.

With just 5.5 hours on record I don't think you know exactly how frustratingly bad this would be.

While this may make you happy and perhaps aroused. This change alone would make ME quit the game and give it a bad review.

If it's a repair system where you could let's say, break down items or resources into repair parts and use those to repair. That would be perfectly fine. But still nothing more than an annoyance.

well then let's also add a starve to death mechanic like in other survival games :)
Rested buff should deteriorate like food buffs do.
Also add in a tired debuff that gets progressively worse the longer you stay up.
For immersion, of course.
