Does core wood need to be covered?
Tried building a bridge but the rain keeps ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the wood. I slapped a roof over it, so hopefully that'll keep it cool. However I do have some exposed bits on the ends. Should I jerry rig up some covering or can I just replace those bits with core wood?

If you want to keep them at full health, yes. However, rain only brings wooden constructions down to half health, so you don't need to cover anything if the rain damage doesn't really matter.

The angled core wood beams count as roof pieces and don't need covering, but the vertical and horizontal pieces do.

It won't completely destroy it if that's what you are asking. As long as you're ok with it looking "weathered", it doesn't need a roof.
If you carry your hammer with you you can just repair the exposed pieces every time you use the bridge.

Really? Didn't know that. That opens some options.

I use the 26 degree core wood beams above my gates in the stakewall, Looks nice an keeps the gate from wearing out.

i was about to write down exactly the same those parts can be handled like roofs

got 26° parts over the little doors here - they protect things from rain
what also works is clipping parts into each other, which could result in waterproof behavior
