I ended up catching about 15 of them by hand, it's extremely easy to just push them up onto the shore and grab. No need for fishing.
Bizarre design choice. I guess it makes them rare and coveted to have but not by much. You can easily bypass never making fish and bread and use omelets or salads. But it's nice to have for bosses or whatever, tho I don't see the extra 5 points being very relevant.
One thing I've noted is that angler fish do not seem to be respawning in the same places once I've fished the area out. Making stockpiling this food item excessively difficult with little rewards in doing so beyond just being a collector.
Yeah, but what if we want to use all three? Great for base building/deconstructing/farming
The best food combo I've found for "housing around" is both the jerkies and bread. Whatever easiest to make really. But both boar and wolf jerkey give you two per run and are very simple to produce. Also give you solid stats for just loafing around the house and good regen.
You can't get enough of these guys to justify the time sink unless you enjoy fishing. In the time you can catch 1 stack of fish and bread, you could have planted and harvested the stuff to make (assuming you did something else while it grows) 20 or more stacks of salad.
I do recommend getting enough to make some for boss fights or even troublesome areas like the mines, but its just not worth it to me (and I do like to fish) to catch enough to eat this all the time.
Correct. Even if you ended up wasting some bait though you can easily end up with over 1000 misty fishing bait from 40 stingy bait.
I also don't think its worth it to make it all the time or for it to be your only stamina food. I just want people to understand that its not that bad to work your way through the fishing system to get the recipe. I also want them to see that the time investment to produce the bait required for the angler fish is not frequent and not that large.
It is definitely worth it for boss fights and the infested mines like you mentioned. Its not a bad choice if you want to run around mistlands hunting at night either.
Pretty much this. Went to the effort to get about 40 fish n bread for me and my wife for the Queen fights (we kill every boss twice). But otherwise, we use mushroom omelet and salad for general purpose stamina food in the Mistlands. Anywhere else, I just use bread. Actually I don't use any of it much anymore as I use 2 eitr foods and honey glazed chicken most of the time, as I have been doing the mage thing mostly as of late. Anyhow, Fish n Bread is mostly fine as it is. It's the absolute best, and if you want the absolute best stamina food, put in the work. If you're ok with something nearly as good, then there are much easier options that are nearly as good. It's definitely not worth it for routine use. But it's nice to have for when you want every advantage you can get.
Well said. I agree.
I spent about 2-3 hours fishing for them and got 7. Cooked a couple to learn the recipe and left it at that, never used them.
All that just for 5 more stamina, you could just sprint for 5 seconds less every 10 minutes and accomplish the same result.
Fishing is *only* worth it if you enjoy fishing itself as the end reward. Like catching a bunch to put in a pond for your base (yes, fish in inventory will swim again if dropped in water, not sure if they're persistent though).
In one hour I can get up to 20 or so.. well worth the time.
Also, more important than it being "just 5 stamina" it also last 5 minutes longer.. it IS the best stam food in the game. I find it extremely easy to acquire.
Even IF you didn't get lucky like I did.. you need exactly 1 perch, 1 troll fish to get 1 herring and be right where I was.
