I guess i've done that as well then, with some added challenge, and no exploits like going into crypts with a portal or door.
300 days on this last run before I decided to kill my first ever boss. Deer boss took like 6 hits total and just barely spawned in. Been to every biome fully geared, level 32 I think now.
When you start needing more iron than you can find just smacking ground it gets annoying sailing around looking for more swamps but once you get used to it, you can find it pretty easily. Didn't need to kill the deer boss, just wanted to see if I could without getting hit, pretty much stun locked it with frostner. The Elder took a few minutes but I can get iron a little easier now. Haven't bothered with the other bosses yet but I'll need to kill a couple more so I can craft all the things. I don't like being soft-locked behind things like that. Almost everything in the game can be unlocked by finding things, but then you get locked behind a boss fight to unlock a couple things that are necessary for progression.
As for locked items, you don't need all that much iron, and now you can get iron from ML, which could be useful, although dangerous. Has anyone figured out what is locked in ML when not defeating Yag? You're going to be blind because you can't get the wisp, but I don't remember what else requires (if anything) the Torn Spirit, or wisp.
You can use a chair to get through the Iron Gates on the sunken temples. Its an odd master key so to speak. Place the chair facing the door and as close/into the iron gate that you can, its usually about half in half out. Take a seat and move forward and should pop you right in, if not give it a couple of more tries before moving the chair to try a better spot. Basically, bugging through the gate ;)
This little trick makes moving from the swamp to the mountains a much more pleasurable experience.
The guide that John above posted is pretty solid and helpful. I typically use the Troll as my employee of the month and I upgrade that stag hammer for longer durability when pounding around. As for the mountain biome you don't need a huge mountain just one tall enough that has obsidian and eggs on it.
I play permadeath and was able to conquer this new update with a new start at 216 days. Roughly at 100 days before I tackled all the bosses but the new Mistlands. No record by anymeans, but haven't tried the no-map or no-portal which could be a nice added excitement/fustration depending on whats going down. Oddly during the whole 100 days or so before I slayed the final boss I got only stir the cauldrons, about 8 of them. Weirdest event RNG.
Happy adventuring, SKAL!!!!
Think the 2 things not killing Yagluth would lock you out of would be the Torn Spirit to get Wisps so that you can see (optional but highly unpleasant) and getting Eggs from the Trader (highly optional). I guess you could probably look up the seed online to locate PoVs without hoping you just blunder into them. Fighting the Queen with limited vision sounds like a really bad idea.
