That's how mods go for an unreleased in development game. The update maintenance on the mods becomes a job and many people give up on it and move on to other games or get busy with life. So unless the modpack was just released for the current version, parts of it are likely out of date.
I can't really play this game without mods so I just manually maintain them. And it's a pain. But not as much pain as the default game. So I'll deal with it for now.
Add one mod at a time, play for a while, make sure it works, know what it breaks, etc.
Eventually you'll build your own mod pack.
