Guess they just want modders to add all that stuff that should be in the base game.
An extra row in the inventory and beeing able to carry the belt and the whisplight please. 300 carry capacity doesn´t do the trick at all in late game. Unless the goal of the devs is to make us go back and forth all the time. Again and again and again...
What a shame not to have access to the workshop ! :)
Or maybe you don't understand why they want you to have limited storage. This isn't Stardew Valley.
and the number of required things is slowly increasing (eg the 4 weapons or needing potions more after first few zones).
We could really use a backpack ++ storage but slow to access or some similar thing. Even pre mistlands I could not carry all the different types of loot stacks out of a mountain cave in one trip. Same now for ML area with new wood, rock, 2 wild plants, 2 bug parts per kill, soldier parts, gjall parts, soft tissue, bunny bits x 2, ... then go into a dungeon and add to all that coins, boss key collectible, jelly, 3 types of free potions, and so on... heaven help you if you get a trophy.
[edit]For fishing at least[/edit] All of this could be solved with a fish basket container item - a viking era chilli bin. 10 slots minimum, enough for quality 1 though 5 of two fish species at a time.
Or just make sure you have space in inventory when you go fishing. You don't need to have multiple of other things while fishing. Plan ahead.
We are planning ahead, too many slots are needed for basic accessories and there is barely anything left. At the least i have
Headgear
Breastplate
Pants
Cape
Mace
Shield
Bow
Sword
Hammer
3 foods
Arrows
Accessory
Portable Portal 4
This is 18 out of 32 slots, it is quite heavy and a lot of room has been taken, this is pretty much the minimum. We need an equipment loadout, a belt is not an accessory, it needs a complete overhaul. The current system was outdated 25 years ago and makes zero sense in any way.
The way you describe it, you may as well drag a cart along every time you leave your base! You got way too many items on you, that's for sure.
If you set some priorities, you will be able to come by with carrying around a lot less.
First of all, for exploration you basically need your armour, belt, bow and one stack of arrows and either a 2-handed weapon or weapon and shield, a hammer and an axe.
Add to that healing potions, 3 kinds of food and stamina potions and you're all good.
That means 16 out of the available 32 slots, of which 8 items are actually stored in your quick slots.
Out of the other 16 slots, you may most likely use 3 more slots for portal materials, leaving you still with 13 slots to pick up the drops of the things you kill. And unless you plan to carry 13 slots of metal, stones or wood, you will more likely run out of carrying weight before you run out of space.
Not to mention, depending at which boat you use for travelling, you got 4 or 18 spare slots available; making it even easier to transport items.
The key is settling at convenient spots.
Your first base should be at the meadows, but close enough to the Black Forest - and possibly swamp - to get there without too many problems.
That way, the only extra items you need to bring along are a pickaxe and for the swamp the hoe and Dvergr Circlet.
Considering you had 13 slots when using the basic items, you still got 10 slots left for loot if you venture in the Swamps.
For plains, you will need the basic items and once you've set up a new base camp, the hoe and the cultivator. But you won't need the Dvergr Circlet. And even the hoe and cultivator are only used for a short while. Meaning it won't be too much of a hassle to use the portal to jump to your main base, get the cultivator, do the farming and leave the cultivator there.
More important, you can easily drop the items you don't need for exploration in a chest at one of your secondairy bases; leaving enough room for other items.
If you don't do that, you may need a 100 slot back pack and still running out of space.
Thorin :)
btw you need the pick in the mountains and mistlands: you can whack the side of the mountain to make a flat spot to regen stamina to keep climbing up and up and up.... forever.
The hoe is optional unless very new to swamp.
all that aside, you missed the core issue.
Lets say you DO have those 13 slots.
add them up as you take a walk and explore**:
mistlands: black marble, copper scrap, copper bar, iron scrap, bug caparace, bug meat, bunny skin, bunny meat, y-wood, soldier mandible, gjall bag, puff, blueshroom .. 13 stacks already, and that is without any blue jute, free minor potions, boss collectible, trophy, jelly, or anything else.
The gear is only part of the problem, even if you minimize it, the ML and some other areas drop so many different types of crap that you have to stop and haul it home every few steps.
The forest is like that too... red shroom, dwarf eye, rock, wood, bone, troll hide, coins, ruby, pearl, amber, necklace, barfberry, seed, resin, feathers, whatever else.
The key here is the ** explore part. If you are gathering rocks or wood, well yea, you are all set. Its going out into the wild and grabbing what you come across that is a huge aggravation. And if you cross a biome, its all over, time to go home and dump.
Could be just how I play.. I tend to find an unexplored part of my map and go there as my default activity most days.
I would take the cart, but it was deemed to be too OP for the ML, so they made the terrain cart resistant. Its really only useful in two biomes, and only marginally there.. meadows and plains. Which happen to have the least amount of extra junk to collect (no dungeons there).
On my recent start before I found the trader and got a pole and simple bait there were fish everywhere, all the time, jumping and cavorting, sometimes throwing themselves at my feet. Got pole and bait and how fish are at best sporadic. On the first 10 spots I had marked early on, 2 had fish and after I caught one fish at a spot, the rest disappeared. It was so frustrating. Am at level 16 at fishing but can't really bother with it anymore. Find a spot, set down portal, get rod and bait, return, no fish. Go back, dump stuff and continue on, rinse and repeat. Carry rod and bait, down to maybe 8 open spots total. Grrrrrrr.
Go to swamp, one full day of fishing and finding fish spots. One lousy herring. Two coral fish that I got by jumping in the water and pushing them to shore... and a puffer fish that jumped in my arms, total waste of time.
Or on those rare times where fish are still there all I get are that fish wont take the bait, or my line breaks, or by then my food is old and tired so can't bring the fish in. Fishing used to at least be relaxing and moderately reliable, but not any more.
Five abominations I killed yesterday, not a single trophy. Used to be it was silly how many trophies they dropped, not any more. I just don't understand why it has to be so painfully annoying.
