Also have not seen another 2 star anything at all.. if I do in the future might just avoid it altogether ha.
Just make sure you slap a portal somewhere kinda close so (and safe) so you can get your stuff faster
Making the difficulty so folks with rl is maybe an iffy decision on the dev's part since I don't care how they billed this game, it has never been "brutal" and this is from a really old player. Changing up the difficulty level at this point seems odd to me but I question the relevance of Mistlands in overall game's development anyway. My opinion only. Your mileage may well vary.
You can't have defensive mechanics in water. Sword and shield combo are my favorite in most games so 'get gud' doesn't work here. Parrying is how I've killed most things up to now since spawning in meadows. What we're talking about here is that enemies can attack in full force in water, the player can not do anything other than swim and swim harder. This exaggeration of 'blind folded easy mode' is just that, there has to be some challenge in playing a game for it to be fun but acting like we're talking about the Olympics is too much. There's a comment talking about making the mist only at the entry into the Mistlands and then once on the main landmass the mist dissipates which could alleviate some turmoil among players. The other would be to lessen mob damage to black stone structures and make it so mobs can no longer attack while swimming the same as the player.
A number of enemies will move slower in water. Knowing where water is and when it's a good time to choose to go swim around in it (either for picking up drops or having to cross some water) plus having good food are rather important and can make the game less difficult. You can also probably use health potions in the water as well - though I personally don't know since I haven't had such a need to use one while swimming.
Maybe a swimming potion could be added or if the Ocean biome is expanded maybe you could have items that make swimming a little faster or less stamina used. Perhaps even weapons / shields that can be used in deep water.
Of the three things mentioned my only issue is with the Mist and how I hope the Wisp Light / Torch will be improved with a greater radius or ability to upgrade the light with a little more silver / wisps so you could have an improved one that you use and some basic back up ones should you die.
You got to read the entire thread to understand our discussion. It was multiple seekers attacking at once knocking me off a ledge into deep water with step cliffs that can't be traversed. The potion idea for faster swimming is an excellent idea but I fear players would abuse this as in not bothering to build a boat. Also being aware of surroundings is problematic since the mist is meant to prevent LOS in a biome full of cliffs and deep water. just simply make it to where mobs can't attack in water unless they are designed to be water only mobs.
I didn't have the feather cape for some time so when moving around in Mistlands I was extra careful to manage my stamina and be wary of my positioning. Fighting on a cliff I would only do that if going against like 1-2 normal seekers and maybe a 1 star though it would depend on the terrain itself whether it's level or not. I'd also only fight in a high area if avoiding a soldier and thus splitting the fight when dealing with a seeker or maybe a Gjall.
I don't think I died due to water in my singleplay run through of the game. Usually I'd use it to my advantage like fighting fulings where you can jump across some water and that makes them move super slowly allowing for easier engagements against multiple foes. Seekers I'd just sprint a second when they use their fly attack and you avoid it easily.
Oh I'm aware of such water which is why I don't really like Mistlands that much because the terrain being so jagged can make shorelines less reliable which means being more careful of stamina management to me. Combined with the limited vision the pace in moving around in Mistlands is a complete 180 from Plains lol. Scrabble around for awhile until I hit a certain amount of stamina just in case - and then scrabble around a bit more hoping to stumble across an Infested Mine.
Once more I haven't had the issue what with dying in the waters of Mistlands - at least to my recollection. It was a bit of an adjustment being used to the previous biome of my 2nd last base which was situated on the edge of a plains right by a swamp which was nice for enemy drops + a lot of extra iron for my last base on a plains some distance from a mistlands.
Trying to find Yagluth I'd just boat around with a portal and then sprint everywhere looking around for his arena or a sign marker.
Back in my day 1 Hit was all you had or you dead.. so 3 hits is super lucky if u ask me
Currently farming the 2 new mushrooms for better foods & fishing/serpent hunting as well as training up the skills I lost. On my single player world I think I'll take some 2 star wolves with me on the boat when I go back in, I got scores to settle.
