*Spoiler* Mistlands Dwarves
There is really no incentive NOT to kill the dwarves for their materials.. I mean, we encountered 2 towers of them with my wife and we scooped around, checked each and every one of them for "talk" option, but nothing.. So I go "kill?" she goes "yep" and with one sneaky kill by her, I recited king Theoden "So it begins..."

I mean, it still involves hostility towards them(stealing)... There is no reputation or trading function here..

i do genuinely wish we had the OPTION to buy them, even if for a ridiculous amount of money or even a rarer material, sometimes there are just so many of them its better to just loot and run xD

Should've also been some kind of function where if you kill seekers or gjall in their vicinity they'll reward you. Or trading trophies or rare mats in exchange for extractors or soft tissue maybe even other rare mats.

This! Haldor loves his gold surely we could buy the upgraded mats off the Dverger - only the seal fragments wouldn't make sense for them to sell given the lore.

That would be a good feature if we could trade with them, hire them for security, and/or other things.

I would really like to have some dvegr patrolling my base(s).

This would also help to alleviate some of the annoying grind currently in the mistlands.

I'm facing the same dilemma now. There are two rogues and a mage in the area (that I see), and I have no idea how hard they are, and I hate killing them as well, since others have helped me out.

What an odd game element to have them help you and die for for you without you asking for it, and then have the game force you to kill them to get necessary items.

They only have 1 thing you need, right? So one time let them die by attracting enemy or kill them yourself or grab and run (warning, can't teleport the item).
Then its all done unless you are really, really excited about sap extraction and want to run a half dozen at a time. After one misunderstanding over their special crate, leave them be if you want.

A Gjall and a couple of seekers ended up solving part of the problem. I still had to kill a mage and a rogue, and then some, apparently higher-level mage showed up that was a bit more of a challenge, but problem solved.

After the carnage, I tried placing a crafting table, partly to build a quick shelter for the night, but also to see if I could get more stuff, but I wasn't able to place it anywhere. Is that normal?

I find it nearly impossible to find the right orientation/location to place a crafting table in mistlands anyways, but this seemed worse.

There's also a skull nearby that apparently has something in it that I'm supposed to want, so I'll have to figure out what that is now and go back and get it.

Still haven't found a mine, which is what I really want/need...

There is something in their tower you have to destroy first to be able to build your workbench........ Let me know if you want the spoiler.

Eventually enemies come along and wipe out many of the towers after your visit them. You can come along later and loot them. There are two things of importance in those towers.

Exactly!

While I think hostility should be an option, there should also be a quest/farm/harvest/trade option to also get the same things. Literally just adding options and fun mini games.
