To block un-starred goblins you need at least an iron shield to Parry, and decent health food to go along with it to give you enough stun resist to respond. To fight effectively with blocking and not only parrying you would need to be in late iron or Silver age, or use some trench warfare setup and use bows. I reccomend getting the root armor chest for plains warfare, since it gives 75% resistance to piercing (javelin goblins/ deathbugs). makes you vulnerable to fire shamans though, but if you see one of those you need to be running away anyway

Yes you can parry them with the black metal atgeir, easily.

Keep in mind what's important to parry is :
Obviously the shield / weapon used, but also mostly your HEALTH, which raises your stagger bar ( which appears on the right side of your screen upon blocking / taking damages )

black metal atgeir makes chumps of fulings even one stars, i wouldnt try parrying with it on a two star just rely on the spin attacks stagger for that instead.

you shouldnt need to parry with atgier, just use the secondary attack.

atgier is a stamina weapon. spam secondary to control and stagger, roll for defense.

if not mistaken Block Armor doesn't matter as much as Parry Bonus. The higher the parry bonus the more likely to parry all of the damage. So a shield like Black Metal even thou its high on block armor only has 1.5x parry bonus and still takes chip damage from parrying very strong attacks.

Parry bonus is just a multiplier on your block armour.

There is nothing better for parry than a high quality buckler or shield, but weapons might be enough depending on HP and value.

Yeah that enables the system to design some weapons to be pretty much unable to block, but still being able to parry like claws and knives. Without parry you would lose so much damage potential, but you can't hunker down from an onslaught with fist weapons.
