Cannot summon boss

I have played this game often. I started a new game after the Mistland update. Everything works great, until I try and summon the first boss. I have the deer trophies, but when i try to place them in the fire alter, it wont take them. I have restarted and reinstalled, still broken. Any thoughts or fixes out there?

Fire altar? The fire one is for the Elder; the second boss. Eikthyr is the first boss, and you place deer heads on a stone slab.

You must place them in a quick slot and hit the key for it, I just did this first one yesterday.

The head after killing can be in any slot and just hit the E key to place on the stone for it.

If you are in the black forest then you are at the wrong one for the first boss.

Thanks for the advice. It turns out, the game showed me the Elder location first. Oh well, perhaps the first boss location will be revealed elsewhere.

The location for the first boss is at the very start of the game. It is one of the first things you find out

The start location has a red runestone that will show you the closest Eikthyr location. Did you go in the forest first to the crypts or a tower? Anyway there are at least two or three Eikthyr locations near the starting area if you look around.

Thanks for the additional messages. After reloading the game twice, the rune stone at the beginning of the game finally worked...and everything else so far. Thanks for the help all.
