Valheim

Enough with the Gjall already
I think the gjall need to be toned down a bit.

Nearly every single time I pop into the Mistlands, every time I emerge from a dungeon, every 30ft or so theres another one.

Im encountering them probably on a 1-to-6 ratio with seekers and thats just a bit too intense for how much damage they tend to put out.

Update; Im up to 2, sometimes *three* Gjall per day/night cycle now. Either I set up shop directly under a spawn point or their numbers really need to get tuned down.

They:
Fly
Attack cooldown is quite fast
Attack multiple times per volley
Attacks are AoE based
Attacks cause a DoT
Have high HP
Spawn Ticks

So trying to dodge multiple aoe explosives per volley, dodge/kill multiple ticks, navigate Mistland's extremely 3-dimension geography, try to get a bow/crossbow shot off and trying to manage godawful stamina mechanic....and thats before throwing in Soldiers or 3-packs of Seekers into the mix!

Honestly they feel great as a rare/very rare encounter like Abominations or Trolls; but the sheer rate of their spawn currently is pushing them into greifing territory.

Honestly i was terrified as i saw them first time, but than i was surprised how easy/fast i can kill them with bow and needle arrows.

^ This. Also seems to do more damage. I personally also just run a bit away, turn and shoot arrows. They aren’t very fast.

Only problem I have with them is that they spawn very frequently, and I'm not sure if they actually drop anything useful.

They drop bilebags, you can craft bombs from, but have not tried yet.

Yes, well, as I said, not actually anything useful. If the new dungeons had more open spaces, I would try them there, but otherwise there doesn't seem to be any real use for bombs for now?

i have drained my stats so much due to dying to these combinations of enemy and bad terrain

I ruined one Mistland area by placing a small location on it. When it regenerated, it was mistlands without mists and loot, but all the monsters. So, I practiced on downing them all including Gjall. I don't use mods so, it took awhile and you need room to run. I created a beach head on a mistland island. No room to move (3 sides water, one side cliff), and up popped a Gjall. so when I take him down, will another spawn in a couple game days? - so would it be better to move on? I just remember the deathquitoes were always waiting on the shore line in the desert biome.

Correcting myself here. Bile bombs are exceptionally useful in clearing infested mines.

+1 on the bombs. Great on trapped soldiers in steep terrain as well.
Soulstinger Dec 11, 2022 @ 4:30pm
I'll have to give them a try; but the fact remains that the Gjall seem way too common for just how nasty they are when combined with the terrain and lack of forewarning/vision.

They are a very well designed enemy for the environment they are found in, but with how little your equipment upgrades in Mistlands (I cant imagine how easy it is to die if you go full caster and the halved armor value the robes are)the constant stamina drain, how fast how much how aoe how dot their attack is; they really feel like they could use a bit of a balance tweak in other raw stats or rarity.

bombs were helpful on the boss, which was a long battle of attrition.

stay out of range unless you can lure gjall low and over flat ground, then attack. keep them turning and they will not fire.

Fire resistance potion helps if you can't spin 'em. Even bringing a hoe and rocks to terraform a quick line-of-sight pillar can come in clutch.
