The Forest Is Moving?
Bought last week. Loving and hating this game. Theres so much to do, yet nothing gets explained. Watching guides and even then game loves to throw me a curveball.

Anyway, before I start talking about my experiences, I have a question.

The Forest Is Moving event. How do I make it stop???

Repaired a little house not that close to the Black Forest, very much still in The Meadow. (just a basic shelter and a campfire so far)
Went out to collect materials for more building.
Come back, event starts, (didnt know what it meant at first) bunch of Greythings come at me. Its in a thick meadow forest, takes forever to kite and kill all of them. That brute hits hard!

Run toward the house again...

"The Forest Is Moving" message.... Another bunch of them. Ran far away to my first base to restock and repair.
Go back toward that house.
"The Forest IS Moving"... Spend forever killing them again.
Run toward the house again...
"The Forest Is Moving"... Run back to base to restock and hopefully sleep it off.
Run toward...
"The Forest Is Moving" Spend time killing them...
"repeat*

So yea, what am I missing here? Only thing I can find it should end after about 2 minutes, Well that's a lie... in my situation ;)

Thanks for reading this ramble, any advice would be appreciated!

You'v gotta stay in the red circled zone on the map until it ends. Just fight everyone or run, but stay in the zone.

As mentioned stay within the circle to keep the vent timer ticking down. the event triggers by spending (x) amount of time near base like improvements ie workbenches and beds etc so wandering about doesnt spawn the event.. but buiilding for prolonged periods... well it can be annoying when the event reappears after (x) minutes

That event is started by killing Eikthyr (first boss) and ended by slaying the Elder (second boss), as others have indicated you have to stay in that ring to burn the time on it. Tends to take them a while to even chew through stakewall, so maybe build a small enclosure with elevated firing platforms.

Thanks. I didn't see that, as I didn't open my map during the combat! But I'll check it out! Thanks!

Any place with a 3 of the following can be a base: Workbench, Bed, Fire, Portal.

If you want to make a satellite camp, make sure you only have 2 of those things built. I usually have a portal and fire, then delete the workbench when I'm done setting up.

Then your little mining base doesn't get stomped by raids.

Exactly this. Each Boss you slay triggers the attacks of the minions of the next one. So make sure you defences can withstand the attack before you take on The Elder as when he goes down you ramp up the opposition! Word to the wise!

You can only have 2 structures built in a given area, that list includes way more than just workbenches, beds, fires and portals. Pretty much every structure not in the building tab qualifies as a player base object (as these objects prevent enemy spawning within a 20m radius)

Thus a temp base of just a campfire and bed will not cause raids, but placing a chest down nearby as well will cause raids to occur.

I got a raid centered on a swamp crypt once and only had a portal, workbench and chest. Luckily I had been paranoid in advance and surrounded the top with stake walls. Now when I do outposts I only have two of the three up at any one time. If I need the chest, I take down the workbench.

If you dig a steep-sided ditch around your whole base it will keep out anything that walks. Align yourself with the compass if you want smooth walls. You can sprint-jump out of there but they can't. Raids get tougher as you kill more bosses, and watch out for things that fly or throw things.

Thanks all for the answer and great tips on how to avoid/handle the raids! That will help a lot going forward.
Much appreciated.

By the way, this article has a list of everything that counts as a base item:

Player base[valheim.fandom.com]

Random spawns (as well as Raid spawns, but not Spawner spawns) are prevented within 20 meters of any of these. Having three or more within 40 meters of you makes you eligible for a raid when the check is made (one of the raid types doesn't have that requirement but only occurs in two biomes [Mountains and Plains], check occurs every 46 minutes of play time, 20% chance of a raid occurring).

I like The Forest is Moving. I just step inside for a snack, step back out, and start hacking. I get close to a stack of wood and pile of stone from each one. Unfortunately the snot balls are piling up. :-)

The trolls I don't like, since they tend to smash things, but I haven't seen them this playthrough yet, which seems odd.

Have you killed a troll AND killed the Elder yet on that map? If not, then that's one reason why you wouldn't be getting troll raids. Other option, of course, is RNG.

Don't forget to place workbenches or campfires around the inside of your base so nothing spawns inside your area.

Yes and yes, although I didn't do the Elder battle until I was ready to go into the crypt, so it's probably only been a game week or so. I haven't had a swamp event either, so I expect my luck is getting ready to run out.

dig a small trench around your camp a cover inside with workbenches...true safe place
