there is no reason
jumping onto a stone hearth should damage it. And also it sounds like metal when you land on it.

Campfires and hearths were nerfed and made to take damage, to keep people from using them as weapons against mobs, as many people were placing dozens of fires down to fight enemies and bosses such as Elder.... It was an unintended mechanic of fires that was getting exploited, so the devs "fixed" it.

Is there a mod for that?

Or just don't jump on them. Or repair them if they get a little damage.

When I am in the process of building I always make a temporary, regular campfire on the outside of the structure I am building to help my stamina regeneration. I build a hearth, but don't light it, an unlit hearth will not take damage. That way I can walk on and around it while I am building my chimney without a problem.

I could also just add another mod the the collection of mods. I mean if I’m going that far lets be honest I have other plans. Sometimes I play vanilla but sometimes I just want to make a grey dwarf grinder with fire.

Well an issue that ive found is that in order to reach a cooking pot placed on the hearth i have to jump up on the edge of it. I cant reach it without doing it. Ive found that if you place a thin wooden stair it kinda helps because you dont have to jump, just walking into the stair makes you jump a short distance and it seems to break stuff less. It still happens though.

Cant they just make it to where enemies that step on the campfires damage it but players stepping on them dont?

simply build the cooking pot or cooking racks closer to the edge... I play only vanilla and have never damaged my hearth while cooking.... obviously if you place your cooking tools out in the middle, you will have issues, so pull them closer to the edge to avoid problems.
