Campfires and hearths were nerfed and made to take damage, to keep people from using them as weapons against mobs, as many people were placing dozens of fires down to fight enemies and bosses such as Elder.... It was an unintended mechanic of fires that was getting exploited, so the devs "fixed" it.
Or just don't jump on them. Or repair them if they get a little damage.
I could also just add another mod the the collection of mods. I mean if I’m going that far lets be honest I have other plans. Sometimes I play vanilla but sometimes I just want to make a grey dwarf grinder with fire.
Cant they just make it to where enemies that step on the campfires damage it but players stepping on them dont?
simply build the cooking pot or cooking racks closer to the edge... I play only vanilla and have never damaged my hearth while cooking.... obviously if you place your cooking tools out in the middle, you will have issues, so pull them closer to the edge to avoid problems.
