Abomination falls easily with axe and bonemass with a mace
Bonemass at it's own is difficult to fight, and if other mobs from area join, you are doomed.
Anyways, congrats on beating Bonemass!
I approach bosses a bit differently due to almost always playing perma-death or limited lives these days. First carefully scout the area, take out or suppress any spawns, however abominations are a special case, they will respawn. Prepare the ground to suit your chosen weapons and method of combat. Take special note of high points like fallen logs as you prepare a fall back position or line of retreat for when things go south in a hurry.
Most importantly, don't let others restrict your choices in tactics or strategy.
GLHF
Started with a sword, saw it didn't do any damage to Bonemass, so I retreated and came back with a mace. Then, after the abomination spawned and I died, I came back with both, and ended up killing the abomination first. It took dying several times and was getting a bit frustrating instead of an enjoyable challenge though.
Turns out the pillars were key. I just stood a few feet away from Bonemass, just outside his cage, and AOE'd him (and everything he throw at me) to death. Piece of cake.
Some might say, "That's way too much work!" But I'm in no hurry to win. I simply enjoy living in Valheim.
