Stacks of coins? A treasure chest? Just decoration?
What are these things for? Just decoration?

Yes, a place to pull together all your unused currency and trade in items for a treasure room, basically.

What else are you going to do with a stack of coins, except look at them and think to yourself, “hmm yes, that is indeed a pile of my wealth”?

Snarky answer aside, it’s just for decor lol.

I thought this treasure might attract thieves in a random way. Some kind of specific monster that might try to invade the base.

Nah, nothing that complex. Just pretty stacks of money. Looks good covering a table and littering the floor. Most other games don't even give you an option to visibly see your wealth strewn about.

You can pretend you're a dragon and create a hoard room. Or you can spend all the gold you acquire on Dverger Circlets and Thunder Stones!

I confess that I'm disappointed, but I hope the devs can change this in the future. In addition to adding raiders who hunt treasure, they could add guardians to defend our base like tamed wolves do.

I think it is refreshing to see that outside of trading (and that really for only one 'must have' item), treasure is basically worthless.

Treasure isn't worthless, you can convert all non-coins to coins, and coins themselves are one of the best items to give to Thor

I've been doing this since they put the coin stacks in game.

Just get to iron age and build a treasure room with a throne and enjoy. its those small moments when you pass by to get item you see it and just admire the view of perfection and those moments when you go out to get gold and remind your self you where there you been there

In other words, coal is worth more than gold, gems, and jewelry.

Makes perfect sense, really. Practicality is more important than opulence, especially when survival is involved.

The stacks are very shiny, and can be used very creatively with fires and lights.

it's what every Valheim viking wants under their yule tree... That and a ticket to the Mistlands.

I think it's too bad the coin stacks don't... stack. lol
I wanted to build a coin wall.
