Valheim

Has the game changed much since release?
I tried to flick through the updates but there is a lot to read and a lot of information for patches.
I'm curious as someone who had finished the game, is there any reason for me to play more, or play again?

Same publisher, different studios (developers). Iron Gate is working on Valheim, Coffee Stain Studios on Satisfactory. Just to make that clear.

Ah was not aware of that, thanks for the info. Still, its strange that the publisher would allow such stark variation in their titles. Perhaps Coffee Stain elects to publish their roadmap but isn't forced to under contract? You'd think you'd want consistency but I guess variety is inevitable between studios. At this point, I'm not even interested in the mistlands update, modders have basically already finished it, I'm more concerned with the constant microfixes that break my server, but that's the catch when using mods. I guess I just wish they put the same effort into this as the publishers other titles, because it has the potential to be great, but with how slow the content updates are, there's hardly gonna be anyone left playing by the time the full release comes out, except diehards and us that keep up with the modding scene.

Returning Player Here: How much has the game changed since April 2021?
I'm too lazy to read the changelog.
Any new content? New places & biomes to explore? New equipment & building blocks?

I'm too lazy to answer.
Go read the changelog.
Toodles.
Ghostaur Nov 4, 2022 @ 12:48pm
nope they just cashed out and are slowly fixing some things. I think in the devs eyes the game is mostly completely done. Idk how they earned so much and then thought to just you know not at least spend some of that money on the game?

No new biomes, yet.

Frost caves have been added to Mountains.
Tar pits have been added to Plains.
There's a new Swamp "light armor" set, and a new Mountains "Light Armor" set. There's also a new weapon, claws.
As far as new building stuff, there's glass window panes from Crystals you get from golems, new roof pieces, a hot tub, and a few others.

The food system was greatly changed and new foods added as well with H&H. They added a new creature to the Swamps, the Abomination. Bats, scruffy wolves, and werewolf cultists have been added with Frost Caves. A new raid with bats has been added. Some of the old raids that didn't activate before now activate (like being Hunted by wolves).

That's pretty much about it, unless I'm forgetting something.

They have BARELY added anything substantial. The way they've been handling it is kind of a red flag for me. This game was extremely successful and made a lot of money so there really isn't a good excuse for it to still be in this state. Great game. One of my favorites. I love it but, also, the devs are kind of flaking out a little bit.
redeyes Nov 4, 2022 @ 1:14pm
nope they have added pretty much nothing, biggest cash grab and run

im almost certain the guys who made the game arnt even working on it anymore (like the owners probably refused to pay the devs more after the initial success so the devs bailed)

AFAIK, the dev team is still comprised of the same original team, plus they've hired a few more. I don't think what you mentioned is correct.

Although I have to wonder with the pace of development if there's some drama that happened amongst the dev team.

yea i duno its just kinda weird how when the game started it had quiet a few things but now they can only do small LAME updates, seems like some of their talent left.......also not to mention the modding community has pretty much finished the game already for them

yet there is zero mod api lol, its a joke imo that its taking this long for them to add any significant content.
AwesomeHero Nov 4, 2022 @ 7:05pm
No. No major content updates yet. roadmap has been flushed down the toilet as well.

Hey folks,

please make sure your discussions are respectful, constructive, and on-topic when posting on the Valheim forums.

Thanks & have a good day!

So, if you wanted a complete game, you should have waited till it was complete. Early access means the game is kinda raw, as Valheim actually is.
I don't want to be mean also but what kind of bull**** excuse is this?
"There are only ten people working on it"
Valheim has more than 300000 reviews on steam.
It has more than 10 million copies sold worldwide. A responsible dev would've done several things with this.
1. Extend the team (you don't need to stack up by much tbh)
2. Make the dev process more transparent
If you compare Valheim with Satisfactory, which both share the same Publisher, its almost a disgrace how untransparent and slow the development process of Valheim is.
This looks and feels like only one dude is still developing on it, especially if you take a close look at the bugfix changelogs the past 6 months.

I even extend this, take a close look at concerned ape who did Stardew Valley.
In the first two years he put out more content and love for his game than the Valheim Devs and he is alone. In regards to MP and a bit of marketing he got chucklefish on board but basically did all the content updates alone.

So this "only ten people" argument doesn't check out at all.

And lets give them the benefit of the doubt here, even IF all of the 10 devs are still developing on it, it surely doesn't feel like they do this as full time job and more like "we did enough money lets work on something else and maybe allocate 2 hours a week to this" if at all.
