Cooked items disappearing when picked up
I'm not sure if it's been since the latest patch (hadn't played for several months) but I'm having cooked food items disappear when I pick them up. I put them on the "grill" and wait for the flash indication they're done but when I pick them back up they don't go in my inventory. They just disappear. Seems to be happening more with deer meat but I've had a lot of boar meat disappear too. I'd recently restarted my character in a new world, so it's frustrating to have the meat items disappear when it's so hard to collect. Known bug?

I had a boar disappear. It was back when I checked again a day later. Did your food clip through a wall or something, maybe?

Ok, found them. In my hut the campfire is on the ground below the floor. When I pick up the cooked items off the grill they drop on the ground. So I have to remove another floor panel to then get them. Is this expected behavior?

Here's a trick: Extend your floor over the fire. I call it the stone age cooktop.

I'll try that. Weird that it's ALWAYS deer meat, sometimes boar meat, but never neck tail.

I tried that and the fire goes out. Ah well. Next place I build will be ground level so won't be an issue with the fire.

Thanks.

Use your hoe to raise the ground under where you want the campfire.

+1. This is what I do until I can build a hearth. You can then put short beans around it so that you don't accidentally step in the fire and break it or the cooking station.

Then your hole is too deep, The coals need to be poking through the wood, then it works.

I place a chair...if careful placement, you can tag all your spits and have the food auto-pickup 100% every time. The careful placement is the key though and may take a few tries depending on numbers of spits.
