Don't Park your Boat in the Swamp, Worst Mistake of my Life
It's just objectively bad to do that; find a calmer area near it like a meadow! A friend and I tried to go directly into the swamp, our boat got stalled and tipped over by leeches and trying to get our stuff back was a painful slog. Once we set up in the meadows next to it though getting iron was a fun adventure (we managed to fill a longship's worth of inventory full of iron)

Lol yerp. Landing in swamp is a bad idea. Skeleton archers, drauger archers, leaches swimming, blobs jumping, wraiths flying and the abomination can get you in the shallows and upright block you from moving. Landing in the plains is safer.

If your going to do it start praying or make a backup.

Classic blunder that I think most of us end up doing when we first travel out to the swamps by boat. Well done on getting your stuff back!

Not trying to dictate how anyone should play, but I know lots of players dismantle their ship anytime they aren't traveling in it.... Make landfall then set up portal (if you use portals), then break down your boat and save the materials for when you need to use a boat for transportation again.

Mobs will seemingly go out of their way to go out into the water to destroy ships, and they don't experience stamina or drowning, so they will certainly get the job done.

I just leave my boat like 20 metters away from the shore , where my stamina bar let be swim before drown , before landing i just snipe anything i see in the shore
Never a problem , but if you do like D day its sure that your boat will be crushed after a while

Parking in the Swamps is pretty safe, although it's not a good idea to part at the closest possible spot. Due to how zones load in, if you see a Swamp in the distance, beeline straight towards it, and then dismount immediately, you're probably walking into an undead army.

However, if you do a bit of circling around a Swamp before picking a decent-looking parking spot, you're going to have far less unwanted visitors. I'd argue that taking the boat down afterwards is your best bet; better to take down your own boat and guarantee that you collect all of the mats used to make it, than have something else destroy it when you aren't there, which might prevent you from collecting all the mats (Iron Nails sink in water, for example).

Find a rock poking up out of the water a comfortable distance off-shore. Due to Valheim's... magical.. physics and building mechanics, you can turn that tiny rock into a docking platform with portal. From there, build a raft aka Landing Craft Infantry - and bonzai the raft at speed into swamp.

Classic.

I wouldn't land a boat in swamp irl, let alone in a game. I'm truly surprised how many think it is safe.

IRL, I wouldn't build an entire house on a small rock.

It's pretty safe to dock a boat in the Swamps, provided you load in more zones before landing (which is basically what my last comment was talking about).

this is why i always tag team iron loading. one person carries the iron out of the dungeon, the other hovers around the area on a boat and occasionally comes in for pickup

I learned the same lesson in a very similar way. so many nails lost :steamfacepalm:

For me. I still park my boat at swamp base on this condition.

> Have meadow or black forest nearby. (Optional, very safe spot to park so dont bother park at swamp if there safer biomes nearby.)
> Flat area on the swamp shoreline ( for quick building purpose)
> Have a spare portal on stand by.

I would build quick checkpoint home/tree house with portal inside it. If you uncertain with that just do what the other guys tell you. Destroy the boat and pick the mats and save into the chest. Since workbench use to be block spawning. Place workbench around that area to prevent spawning in future (they can still yeet your workbench if they spawned outside the radius.).

if you get out of the boat enemies will prioritize you instead as long as you are nearby.

Don't park your boat anywhere, really.
Dismantle it with your sword and stuff the parks into storage.

It's best to set up a portal base immediately after landing. Keep an eye out for meadows or black forest near a swamp, they make pretty safe landing points.

Yep, done the same mistake the first time we get in the swamp.

Since then, there's always a meadow or Black Forest just beside any swamp. We park there and go in the swamp by foot.
