Must admit its Muricans who gets it wrong though, since everything but Thanksgiving is an import from Europe. ;P

Joking with facts aside, you're right; decoration goes up days before the day. Except the Christmas tree. :)
And I'd like my Jack'o'Turnips now as well tbh,

It will prolly come out with mythlands at this rate.

It's my understanding that Europe is a lil "meh" in places regarding the pagan new year.

Netherlands, barely care about it.
France, most of the country don't care but the major cities are starting to embrace it, kind of like Portugal
Italy & Bulgaria.. they really don't care much they got their own things to do.
Germany, Swiss, Greece & Romania, party time!

...the more you know.

seems like last year they added the JOT 1 week before... be patient or "console" them in if you cant wait.

Look at nearly every other similar game on Steam and you will see Halloween events. I understand the Norse didn't actually have anything similar but it would still be fun anyway to have some event around this time, such as Norse tradition of álfablót, the sacrifice to the elves. The álfablót was a celebration held between the end of autumn and the beginning of winter.

Feel free to categorize the U.S.'s Thanksgiving as one more largely-imported holiday that Americans turned into its own as its roots lie in celebratory English harvest festivals that existed in pre-Christian times.

As far as last year, I tracked down the announcement for when Jack-o-turnip was enabled. 4 Oct 2021.

SMALL UPDATE / PATCH NOTES

Patch 0.203.10
Further post-Hearth & Home-tweaks
This time we’ve made some more adjustments to make everything feel more balanced. Some food stats have been changed, but more importantly all melee weapons will now cost less stamina to use. We also taught the Fulings some new battle tactics and told night-spawning monsters to go to bed once the sun is up. And since fall is properly setting in, you can now make your home even cozier (or spookier) with a Jack-o-turnip!

0.203.10
* Oven & cookingstation drop food items when destroyed
* Gamepad sensitivity save fix
* Acorn & Birch seed drop rate increased
* Onion seed icon tweak
* Player number difficulty scale tweaks
* Removed comfort from Crystal wall
* Atgeir, Blackmetal axe, Bronze spear tweaks
* Lower melee weapon stamina drain
* Knives have more durability
* Tweaked some food stats based on effort to craft (blood pudding, boar jerky, bread, deer stew, mincemeat sauce, wolf jerky)
* Night-spawning monsters despawn faster in the morning
* Parry ranged attacks staggers caster again (illogical but fun)
* Fuling AI tweaks (Spreads out & circles more)
* Longer Lox attack cooldowns
* Frost damage slowdown fix
* Shield tutorial trigger fix for wood shields
* Wood log 26° & 45° stability fix
* Jack-o-turnip enabled
* Torch + weapon jog animation fix

The reason for that is easy to understand:

1) It's a Celtic celebration, which was taken by Irish and Scottish settlers to the US.
Which means it hasn't been celebrated by the rest of Europe in the first place. They got other traditions to celebrate.

2) Europeans in general have no interest into commerciallized American celebrations. Especially if those celebrations are a shade of what they once used to be or - what's happened more - a combination of two or more European celebrations.

Thorin :)

That's amazingly incorrect. Harvest festivals are in September / October, aka Octoberfest.

Thanksgiving is because the indigenous people decided to feed the idiots that didn't bring enough food and were stealing from them.

Hey folks,

please keep this Valheim-related. The JoTs probably just got lost during the latest patch phase, I don't think IG is trying to make some larger cultural commentary with this.

Have a good day, hopefully soon with carved turnips!
