how do i tame the pigs?

so i saw the rune stone that read that if you have fire in your hand and roots on the ground the boars would get tamed but i don't know were to get the roots i have progress to bronze can i get some tips.

You are reading the info too literally, the roots are referring to the various berries and vegetables you can feed boars, basically anything from the ground. Do not shine light on untamed Boars they will just run and get too scared to eat or be tamed.

Trap em somewhere, throw some food inside (raspberries work) and watch the magic happen. And I quite literally mean watch it happen; you basically just have to sit there for thirty minutes while the boar is taming unless the taming area happens to be near an area you frequent (i.e. your base).

That being said, I personally don't think it's worth taming boars. Their only purpose when tamed is to be killed for their boar meat and leather scraps, and it's far easier and more efficient to kill boars out in the wild than it is to try to breed a bunch of them. Also, while Leather Scraps are needed for a lot of recipes, they are NOT a unique drop from Boars and can additionally be acquired in both Sunken Crypts and Frost Caves. There are other animals that can be tamed that actually provide things apart from their loot drops.

To each their own, but each star a boar has doubles the drops, aside from trophies. No star boars? Yeah, better off hunting. Two star boars? Depends on how much boar drops you want, and whether you prefer spending a little extra time hunting vs the long-term investment of putting together a farm. Some people like that, the same way they like building elaborate bases. Though, it's worth noting that you can "pause" a farm if you've got plenty of supplies, because the boars won't starve to death or anything. And later on, when boar meat becomes less useful as viking food, it still has some uses. Sure, taming boars is totally optional, but you might be underselling it just a bit.

A rather important aspect that hasn't been mentioned yet is that you need to protect those boars. New players might not realize that incursions can be quite deadly to tamed boars, without the proper precautions.

The ideal scenario is to find a boar pen or abandoned structure, an abandoned shack is perfect. Repair it and place doors at either end, or leave a missing roof piece, so you can jump out after the boar is trapped inside. Leave some food inside, berries, red mushrooms, carrots, then approach your boar (it is extremely preferable to tame a 2 star boar, as they are strong and can kill most meadow denizens) and get it to chase you into the structure. Make sure to destroy the workbench you used to repair the structure, as a workbench will also antagonise boars. Keep your distance from the boar and it is advisable to be crouched and weaponless as a crouched weaponless state causes the least aggravation to wild animals,

Once your 2 star boar is tamed, tame another regular boar, preferably in the same enclosed area. Once tamed they will breed and the offspring of the 2 star will always be another 2 star boar.

triple layer fencing in a meadow area tends to make incursions pointless, but sometimes you get a rough one.

I strongly recommend taming 2 animals at the same time. It's quite the time sink, so repeating it as little as possible is preferable. One thing you can do while waiting for the taming to finish is grind some stealth skill.

Two-star Boars might be worth the merit; provided, you can find one. But I just can't stand the hassle of attempting to move boars, since they can't be set to follow the player, and to make matters worse, other mobs can kill said boars. Even two-star boars only have thirty health, making them little more than cannon fodder against even Black Forest hostiles.

I found an abandoned village and repaired the walls on the 4 buildings. There were a lot of boar in the area so I knew it was just a matter of time before a 2 star boar spawned. I killed off all the boar in the area, after which a 1 star boar spawned. I agroed it to chase me into one of the buildings and began the taming process on it. I then went out after leaving food for it, and killed all the regular boars in the area. Basically one only needs to be within visual range of an animal for the acclimation process to advance. It is not necessary to actually be able to see it, one just has to be in the zone. While taming the 1 star, a 2 star boar spawned which I kited into another building and began the taming process on that one.

After they were tamed and I had a decent size singular of boars, I let them roam the meadow area freely. The raid event "Eikthyr Rallies the Creatures of the Forest" happened. Wild boar will not attack tame boar and vice versa, so the only threat to my livestock were the necks. The necks managed to kill 2 of my one star boars, but my 2 star boar were unscathed. 2 star boar can easily kill regular necks, Greylings & deer. Even the 1 star boar almost always come out the winners in battles against those foes, but regular boars die nearly every time.

Too me, the runestones that spawn boars semi-regularly is what makes taming them obsolete. Chests full of meat and leather scraps are to be had right away if you live near a boar runestone or two.
