I've played only vanilla before, and would like to try an overhaul or enhanced-vanilla type of mod set, but I absolutely don't want to tweak every little thing myself. (When I looked at the description of Valheim+ it sounded less like "here's a curated vanilla+ experience I can try" and more like "here's 20+ switches and dials I can fiddle with until I probably ruin the game for myself cause I don't know what I want or what I'm doing".)
I guess I'm looking for something for Valheim that's kinda like what "War of the Walkers" is to "7 Days to Die". It kinda sounds like you've put together something like that yourself from a bunch of other mods and your own tweaks and cross-mod integrations. Is there a way to share that with a single link or list?
Yes, for sure. I'll send u a friend Request so as to not bother everyone here. You can use my Valheim+ config from earlier playthrus and/or the mod pack which is pretty much plug and play. I initially made a backup of my Valheim folder and play modded there so I can easily go back to Vanilla install as needed. Just mentioning this as it's a good practice before you mod any game. :)
For an idea of what you are getting into, check out my screenshots. It's hard but doable/rewarding, just gotta know the game. Harrrrr!
Some people like it super realistic. Not me. Real life is busy enough without having to spend hours moving metals from one end of the world to another just to build a nice home.
But to each his/her own.
You don't have to take forever to get resources, or get them from one end of the world to another if you have a proper plan and logistics setup.
Used wisely, you can add a lot of QoL while still maintaining the feel of the original game, or add a WHOLE bunch of challenge. Personally I use Valheim+ that's been carefully massaged to make life a bit easier for my partner's building (carry weight, stack size, stamina use) without making it ridiculously easy.
We play with a few mods on our server. We really enjoy them. But at the moment a couple are "broken" because Valheim did an update and the mods didn't (yet). So some of the content we had is now gone. That's just the risk you ACCEPT if you are going to play with mods. If you're not willing to risk losing stuff, don't use mods.
People just read about mods and think, let's try them out, having absolutely no clue what they do, how they work and what happens when the game updates. When the game breaks, they come here to the forum telling the developers to fix the game, when it really is the mod that is breaking the game.
I'm not even blaming them. They just don't know, because nobody warns them enough of the risks they run with mods.
Or you could simply wait for mods to update before, updating, and keep all your stuff :)
otherwise you might experience crashes after each update because of outdated mods, and you'd have to wait till they got updated as well.
Shouldn't the mod descriptions show what drastic changes they do to the game? Either way there are mods that make the game more difficult, but I agree these kind of mods are very rare in games. There's only a few masochists like us who want to make our own playthroughs harder and longer xD
Yes, Valheim+ is incredibly granular in what it can modify. If you want chests with only 4 slots, or smelters that take an hour per ore, or bees that give 1 honey every 6 weeks... you can do it. Want to earn 1/2 as much xp? Done. Want weapons to use even more stamina? Easy. Want to reduce item drop rates by 90%?... you get the idea.
It doesn't display the player log, it opens the local* folder that contains the log and all of your game data as well. To back up everything, just move up one level and copy and paste "Valheim" folder which is immediately under the "Irongate" folder all by its lonesome.
Mod-away!
