Hey just to make a quick greeting, I'm one of those ♥♥♥♥♥♥ valheim players out there with a problem. You play the game well and good and at one of these automatic save moments the thing crashes, complete freeze, nothing works anymore. You want to go back into the game to assess the damage and find out that the cloud storage, which you somehow stupidly trusted, has been completely deleted, just like that while it still had active use.
So the map starts on day 1 and you somehow look for a way to restore even if only one percent of your previous performance, because nothing has been built on this map yet. Castles, houses, portals, ships everything is gone.

And now comes the cruel joke of the matter, without a backup of some kind, which the cloud server doesn't use either, you can't bring your map up to the latest state from which it was still functional, so ♥♥♥♥ me the normal player I guess.

It will take a long time until I can cope with this as a "new challenge" and that will certainly be one of the reasons why I will not recommend the game to anyone, that and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that bosses are such an absolute must in an open world game. That you can't unlock anything new unless you make said bosses, you can explore the entire world, but if you want to take something from it, the game is dictatorial and orders you to make the boss at these points in order to be allowed to have anything at all. Well, you should not have put your faith in STEAM's cloud save feature, it been broken for years.

The first time it bit me, what should i say except as "if you know it's broken an cuases issues dont put it in the game or give it a proper description like (very unsafe feature to transfer saves)"

sorry i had to edit it because saying "hey i gonna rape you" doesnt make the experience any better

Than put it in a productive way, feel free to do it i just mention my experience so far and how i gonna react to it, cause if something is a problem from the devs or rented servers, should it be my task to fix it? Sure i can prevent it from happening and minimize the dmg, but it's still the damage and it means the problem is still out there.

And problems cost players thats the simplest math in gaming

Soooo should i still backup everything about my Charakter cause this data is somehow unaffected and i see all the progress and landmarks on my maps but it just got wiped. Still the fact that your cloudsave gets deleted WHILE you use it is absolut ♥♥♥♥ :/

Still wanna say it shouldnt be necessary in any way, back in the days if you didnt save your files and wiped it you made both steps and it was completly your fault now it's just something random that could happen to you and i think we shouldnt accept it even on early access games

"Best of luck!" thank you but i would had luck if i had any backups, but sadly i didnt made one like i would do for any non functional game and as it seems the cloud which has the only base and reason to save files has no backup either so they overwrote or simply deleted the only save file and thats it, thats the problem, nothing else to say.

Or in other words the devs implemented the issues with the cloudservers and the servers say "well if we ♥♥♥♥ it up it's the players fault" and the player just dont wanna take it and leaves

Backups are generated automatically, even if you use Steam Cloud (worldname.db.old). Please read the guide Nefrarya linked and try recovering your savefile.
